Zuki Amps?

Post by bdubs767 »

There is an amp going around the diy crowd that is getting rave reviews, with people claiming it's better than many other high end amps. The owner of the company will not release any specs or internal pics, which makes me wonder, yet everyone who gets one is extremely pleased.

So I started to look into the amps, and try to discover why they keep getting such rave reviews. The only thing I could find, is the amps have been built with out any protective circuitry, or whatever else may protect the amp from being a paper weight if something were to happen. The logical conclusion I came to, about how this amp can create a better sound, is the signal is going through less components, thus the less its being altered (otherwise know as distortion) from it's original state.

Yet, what amount of distortion can a few protective circuits add to an amps design? It can't be more than 1%, which is what the best of human ear can recognize. Possibly though those protective circuits add phasing issues, which could cause phase to be effected, and hurt the amp.

I'm just trying to come up with logical conclusion about why these amps are being said the sound so good, other than its marketing and in peoples heads.

I would venture to say a lot of it has to do with price. I know if I was paying what he is asking I sure as hell would hear a difference!!

Very little protective circuitry is ever in the signal path. For example, external circuits can monitor the current in a power supply and force the amp off or into a lower power state without ever looking at the signal traveling through the amp.

I believe Sanken (a major producer of audiophile transistors) has launched a new BJT which has internal thermal compensation and will ramp back its power if overloaded. This is likely completely independent of the actual signal.

If these amps are so expensive, they probably sound good because they are made with good parts.

Designed in the USA, but bui8lt in the east , u can tell by the terminals , I remember odc saying that the terminals are a dead giveaway as to eastern built amps with the clear and plastic terminals , however I could be wrong.

well gene series three use them and are hand built in england and sinfoni also uses them which are hand built in italy. So....

I got one silly little question ...

Who the hell is ZUKI?????

maybe I been under a rock for all these years but I figured I might have heard of this fella somewhere. But I am drawing a blank.

And who wants a 10 watt amp ? or is he just rating it while its in its Class A drive mode before switching to class B.
Cause all AB amps do this and I have a old Alphasonic that has 25 watts per in class A before it switches to class B mode.. like DUH...

Plus who wants a amp that is rated at 10 watts at 0.005 percent distortion but has 300 more watts at class B distortion which I must say is a tad bit higher what with design related issues. < think about this one carefully I think I may be on to something here>

I hate to say it but all the BS i read from those links sound like company affiliates barking their goods without really saying anything with substance to prove anything about their so called high class amp.

At least PG and others open their amp up so you can see whats inside. These people all talk but show no guts, so I must say it sounds like a con artist rap line...

Post a internal pic and I will shut up but until then I smell something and its ain't cream cheese.... :?

Oh I thought it was just me

Look at what I see. 1 out of Los Wages, 2 no open pics, 3 a 10 watt rating at some unreal distortion rating with everybody saying it has a ton of power...come on guys I thought JOMA was bad.

Hell guys even the box looks cheesy as hell with its Bull Shit 10 watt rating on it... I smell scam, I smell cheap Chinese amp.... as I said post me a internal pic and i will shut up. But until then I don't listen to people posting info without substance. And that is all I see on DIYMA at this time, I say CON ....

Heck even the web-site SUCKS !!!!

I like how the reviewers agreed not to post internal pics...

Why, because then people will see they paid heavily out the ass for chinese cookie cutters? Brilliant!

Here's what some "reviewers" are saying:

"people with very high voltage preouts or line drivers can drive the amp past its limits since it has no protection circuit and the amp will never clip."

The amp that never clips! It just keeps making more and more power with zero consequences! :D

There is that elitist air that many forum'goers have, meaning product superiority based on price alone. When I was ready to order high end SQ biased amplifiers, I went with ZED burr browns. No where near the hype/price/false info of many others.

So when are we pooling our money and getting one of these to try? If it is so great, we can then dump it on eBay when done with it.
