adding small amp for my 6*9's...got a question

ok...so i'm gonna put a lil 2 ch amp in for my new 6*9's. so i'm thinkin I'll run signal to that amp from my rear rca out of the h/u (not the sub out). then i'll just run the speaker wire from the speakers to their respective terminals on the amp (and disconnect the factory harness from the speaker). think i got that part figured out. what im wondering is this..since the h/u is no longer powering the rear spkrs, will all of its power be directed to the front spreakers? i dont think this next thing would make a difference, but i was planning on disconnecting and sealing off the rear speaker leads from the h/u's wiring. my goal is to kill two birds with one stone...a lil more than doubling my input to the rears spkrs with the 50x2 rms amp, and thus doubling my front input to aroung 40x2rms from the h/u. Is that gonna work the way i planned or am i missing somethin?

1) If your going to amp a pair of speakers it should be the front before the rear.

2) No, your headunit will not force all of the power to the channels that are hooked up. Your headunit will send the same power to each channel weather it is hooked up or not.

3) Don't even think about bridging your headunit's speaker outputs. This is a sure fire way to blow most headunits.

ok then...i guess i'll be amping the fronts and the rears then....could you guys tell me how one typically gets the speaker wire from the amp and into the door panel? thnx guys

You would usually run it along side or inside the factory harness.

its an '06 sonata gls...you should see the underside of the rear deck in this thing, it's like a fortress...you wouldnt even know that there are speakers there
what if the hokey pokey really is what it's all about?

Running wires into the doors will be a pain. There is a molex plug on the body side of the door jamb boot. This enables a body shop to disconnect a door's wiring at the boot and pull the door off for service/repair. In order to run a new wire in there you will have to open up a hole in both sides of this plug. Not too difficult on the boot side but the body side is gonna be next to impossible unless you have some form of right angle drilling device.

The easiest way would be to run your amp's speaker outputs to the wiring harness behind the head unit and tie into the factory wiring there. The factory wiring is typically sufficient for most system upgrades. It will save hours of work. Not to mention the possibility of damaging the other wires in the molex plug.

^very true.

I was lucky on my install, and they had left "blank" pins that i could feed wire through, and into the rubber boot.
my ex-girlfriend said "its car audio or me"
i've had tougher choices at a soda machine...
