Hurrah, a Veilside !

Post by ydnap »

No Im not about to spend $4000 on my car

For ages and ages I have had this irresistable urge to build a rice car with a Veilside kit on.

I don't know why, maybe because I wanted to build 'a' car with a kit on but not a real one (kits look nice until you try and drive the car over a bump) and thus I would never fit one to a car unless it spent most of its life on the back of a trailer.

Now I wanted either a Fujimi RX7 Veilside, or Fujimi Skyline Veilside (like my mate's real one) but they were over $50. And even when I took into account just how gorgeous the RX7 was and how amazing the kit was (the detail was breathtaking) I couldnt justify spending $70 on a 1/24 model (paint and so on).

Then I noticed a fast and furious Veilside Supra.

Now it's made by Ertyl, and, their models are known (from experience by comparing the revell monte carlo to the ertyl trans am) for being utterly shit.

The trans looks ok, but it was a shit kit, thin body, shit quality parts and so on.

However, for $12 for the supra I figured I would give it a go.

And, Im pleased to say the model kit is fucking brilliant !

The detail is astounding, the kit is complete and you have to put it on yourself. Detail goes to full roll cage, 3 amps (mine are painted white already.. wonder what they are then? 2 subs, 2 chrome NOS bottles the lot.

I really was amazed tbh.. Seats? you get 2 choices. Either the stock seats with harnesses on or sparco butterflies. Hey, it's rice to the max so I painted the butterflies

But even the quality of the body is awesome, it fits well and the veilside kit even includes a choice of alu wing or proper carbon.

So I chose the carbon one.. It just fits the supra very very well :)

Early progress. I have used some tinting vinyl on the windows.. Theyre not glued in I was just seeing (how well) they came out :)

2 fast
2 furious!

whatwhat!

veilsides are awesome, but so over the top, if your car isnt the fast thing on the road, they are out of place.

Theyre out of place on the road, period Bri tbh.

I have to admit, Veilsides are fucking gorgeous. And, proven to improve aerodynamics and handling.

On the road though? they end up broken with a week. My friend used to have a kit on his Tibby (make that 2) and both broke off.

Good way to waste $7000.

Anyways, check this out, how fucking cool is this?

I will be tracking down the green Eclipse from F&F 1 and Diesels RX7 from F&F1.

For $12 these models are fucking great ! detail is amazing (rotors are drilled and slotted) and the rims are even really nice :)

It comes with some veilside license plate covers and plates too :D

Saw a Veilside Terminator 350Z convertible on my way to work today. Man that was ugly.

well its dead :(

because of the cold weather I had to fashion a way to dry the paint.

So, I got an old shoe box and cut a hole in the end, pushing a hair dryer in there.

I painted the chassis, and my 'oven' left what can only be described as a pile of black glop in the bottom of the shoebox

So I gotta get another kit and another chassis.

Fuck...

The engines built tho ! looks killer with the turbo and filter lol
