Trying out shallow Sub, (Was thinking about going sub-less)
In my truck I am thinking about going subless. My truck is semi collectible. I race it so weight is a factor & I will not cut any sheet metal or any parts are hard to replace. (The Cyclone in my closet is not going be a blow through). I also need room behind my seat for my laptop for racing & tuning. Behind the passenger seat is taken up by the jack assembly & PG TI500.4.
I currently have 5 1/4" seperates in the doors & one 8" sub between my seat. I have tried a couple different sub setups. They sound like ass behind the seat. I think i need some breathing room but that is tough since I am 6'3" and I have a median clearance behind my seat of 4.5" inches. I have it currently firing forwar but between the seat. I have tried different subs (Arc Audio & BA 8.5's), they sound best firing them how I have them currently. The BA has a little better output than the Arc Audio, but I would need to make another sub box for the BA. Neither 8 has that much output, and don't have a lot of extended low end. Its probably want you would expect from one. I can not fit a 10" sub between the seats (It about 9" between my seats) and I doubt I will find shallow mount that will fit behind my seats that will sound good.
What I have now is alright. If I keep it, I want to redo my door speakers in fiberglass and I will probably make another box for my BA 8.5" I am basically going to have to redo a lot of my stuff anyways.
So I have been thinking about ditching my sub, buying some Dynaudio 3 ways, molding the 8's into the doors and building kick pods for the 3" & tweeter. The Dynaudio suposedly go down to 40hz and I don't think that my single 8's is going much lower than that to begin with. Two 8's midbass vs one 8' sub might not be that much different in term of output.
Should I just stick with what I have and stop screwing around my truck? Ie just finish it, I still have everything in MDF.
If I do keep it do you think it would be worth while to upgrade to Z6's over my Z5's. I went with Z5's over Z6 (I actually had a used set of Z6's but never installed them) becuase the Q-Forms I intalled had were too deep to fit the Z6's without doing any metal cutting.
Or should I take this opportunity to upgarde to Dynaudio 360/2's. I have actually never heard a set, so I would have to hear them first.

I have some other pictures on my web page, but they aren't that good spacially & were from when I first bought my truck 6 years ago.

I had some better pictures of my trucks interior & stereo, but the server they were on crashed. I can look at home to see what I can dig up.
I am running my Arc Audio in a sealed enclosure. I could alway port that. I do have enough room to port that.

RSd ROCK DOWN LOW....By far hands down most midbass out of a 6.5" woofer I have heard to date, and mine were IB.Bfowler wrote:ask brandon about them at 20hz....
errin used 4 of them in a truck....said it sounded great, but you will have to wait for him to post for an explanation
If ported or sealed in proper sized enclosure they should be fun.
I actually right now am trying to convince a local guy to let me wall his car off with like 15-20 of them....he thinks its stupid, kinda is but it would be fun. Doubt hell go for it

If I were ever to compete in spl id so do it, w/ 2 specaily used x400.1s.... Id love to see the faces on people w/ the big subs getting beat by 6.5" woofers lol
Can one send others to war if hes not willing to go himself?
This basically what I have. The distance between the two seats is only 8", gets to only 9" by the time it reaches the rear window height, so I can't put a 10 where the current 8 is. The distance from the behind the seat to rear wall starts off 7" but quickly decreases. My 4 1/16" depth 8 Sub are pretty tight.

Should I try porting my Arc Audio 8" sub first? I have enough room to do that. I have never really looked into sub programs, I usually just followed manufacturer recommendations.
I am little skeptical about a bunch 6.5's and if have enough room to put enough of them in to make enough of an inpact. How much volume would I need or do you recommend? Will my bridge rear channels of my TI500.4 (250x1) have enough power to push them?

Yes, my crossover and wires are in their, the jack mounting assembly is welded to the body, so it stays.AVICJR wrote:If it's like my old S-10 then probably not it's the jack behind the passenger side only.stipud wrote:Is that hump under the 500.4 there on the other side as well?

Maybe I really need to revist shallow mount sub in the 10" range. My Pro 8.5 BA is 4 1/16 mounting depth and I am using 3/4" MDF. It barely fit (My sub was withing 1/16-1/8 of the back MDF), but I think the sub really needs some room to breath. Hence the reason I think it sounded like crap. I think its need about an inch of breathing room for the sub to sound alright (any input to this theory)
I could use fiberglass which would save me over 1/2", plus the 9/16" of depth saving, so maybe this Exile sub would actually work. I could also remove some of the factory sound deadning pad on the back wall as well.
How do these subs sound SQ wise? I will do a search on caraudio forums for some brands. I know pioneer makes one, but the Pioneer name scares me away

Here's a little something for you to read. The 12"Xtecs ship in March.

I had a bench seat in my S-10 and I had a box with two 12"s that extended the width of the seat. It was deeper on the bottom but came up to a point on top. Looked like a triangle from the side. It came up from the bottom to the top just underneath the rear window. In the middle of the box I had two M25's recessed flush with outside of the box. It was beautiful, but for the life of me I can't find any pictures of it. Of course this was 13 years ago also. It was a great box design.

Sorry if I wasn't clear, my wiring & crossovers are under the plastic jack cover.stipud wrote:Could you fit the crossovers and wiring on the floor under the Ti500.4? If we can clear it up behind the driver's seat, you could fit a decent subwoofer there.

The JL looks nice, but its not due out until next fall. Atleast in my intial search for other shallow enclosure subs, the only other Sub that is would fit specs are Pioneer & Clarion. I would never buy other Pioneer products and I am not so sure Clarion I know they have some higher end stuff, but the also in the past have had low line as well.
