Gain/ Sensitivity ???

Post by trckydve »

I'm not sure, but I think I read not to long ago on here that most PG amps can take 13v at the RCA's. Is this correct or was I drunk? I tried to search for it but can't find it.

I'm pretty sure you were drunk. I think around 9volts is the most that most PG amps take. Maybe some of the massive old school amps might have taken more (and maybe the current Route 66) but i dont really know.
what if the hokey pokey really is what it's all about?

i've always used 9v processors with m/ms series amps with no issues, after all a company wouldn't make 9v processors and matching amps that only accept 2v in!!!

Thanks but I have my manual. I swear I thought C or one of the other knowledgeable guys said all the Old amps up until the Xenons would actually take 13v. The only reason I ask is that I was adjusting my Overdrive and ended up turning it up all the way without the amp clipping. I figured I better check voltage because they put out up to 13v RMS and I wanted to make sure there wasn't a problem. Sure enough it was sitting around 12.9. I always thought that it was 9v also. That's when I thought about reading that and just wanted to check before I end up blowing something.

no, cecil was saying you can convert any amp to accept higher inputs by adding some resisitors to the inputs, was a very recent thread but i don't recall 13volts been mentioned!

Yeah, I remember what your talking about but I don't think it was that recent. I might have just dreamed this, but even if that is the case how could I be sending 13v down the RCA's without clipping? I have since taken the Overdrive out until I get to the bottom of this, because even at half way it's giving it around 10v. My deck only gives 200mV which means I have to crank the gains all the way up.

the Xenons will take 13v RMS
I think we've established that "Ka Ka" and "Tukki Tukki" don't work.

Will they? I'm pretty sure that's what I read. It says from 8v to 200mV on the gain knob, though. And that's also what it says in the manual. But, it sounds great with no clipping at 13v. That's why I wanted to come on and ask some of you PGeniuses.
