Viper alarm.
Viper alarm.
I realize it isn't car audio but it's vehicle related. I finally got my truck on the road and now I'm fighting with the alarm system. The truck is a 1993 so the alarm is probably from around that time. It was installed when we got the truck. I NEED to know how to turn off the auto arm mode. As soon as both doors are closed it arms itself about 20 seconds later. I've set it off half a dozen times so far in the last couple of days.
The alarm is an aftermarket Viper alarm. It has a 2 button remote, I'm not sure if there is a valet switch or not. Anyone have any guesses? I assume the process is similar for most Vipers. If I don't figure it out soon I might just take it out.
Thanks,
Jason

show me the remote. I have a really odd feeling its the same as mine, a clifford arrow 2 in disguise..
Is the remote like this one?
And does it do what mine does? check the video.. Arm, kick the tire, warning, kick it again, sound.

If its the same it will have a valet switch, and you flick it to program modes. Auto lock can be switched off, cos I can with mine. I have the manual and schematics for this alarm and, IIRC vipers are rebadged cliffords. Your remote may not say Clifford like mine, but mine didnt either, the original shell was a Hyundai H.
If it bips and boops tho its this one.

Yep, the alarm sounds just like that. The remote is the same except that it says viper. If you have the instructions that would be great. I'm going to go and look for the valet switch in a few minutes and I'll try that sequence with the remote as well. One thing though...I don't have separate arm and disarm buttons. As far as I know there is nothing hooked up to the alarm to use the second button, aside for silent arm/disarm.
Thanks guys.
Thanks guys.
my second button does fuck all mate, so thats a no brainer
Ill up the manual now.. Its all about flicking the valet switch, the fucker will start honking like a dying duck and youll know its working

Well I looked all over under the dash and I can't find a valet switch anywhere. All I found was the shock sensor and that's not going to help me. I tried opening the door and pressing the buttons but it didn't change the mode. However, if I open the door and press 1,2,1,2 it turns the alarm off. That does make it alot less annoying when working on the truck.
Thanks for the help so far. Downloading the manual right now.

My valet switch is located in the kick panel on the driver side. There is a door there and its a metal pole type flick switch.
If you need to find yours locate the shock sensor (usually bolted to the steering column) and follow it. Youll soon find the brain (mines about a foot away under the dash) and the valet switch will be plugged into that, 2 wires (mine are white and black for the send and return).
Some alarms dont use a switch though, they have a dumb pressure pad somewhere under the carpet. God I hate those fuckin things

if its an older clifford it will be
as follows.
turn on ignition and flip the valet switch 4 times, there should be a confirmation chirp and your auto arm is off.
i really loved installing pre dei avital and clifford products.
the good ole days of alarms.

You may have subs in your car........but my doors sound better!
Boring factoid reply
Clifford are based out of the UK, they are based in the south near to Reading.
They were the first alarms (and actually set the standard) to be endorsed by the Thatcham category system, which was set up to ensure vehicles were harder to steal.
Thatcham takes its name from the place it is based, Thatcham UK about 20 miles out of Reading UK. I have been there (used to be friends with a girl there)
They were purchased by Directed a couple of years ago, but still exist doing what they do. Directed also own Viper who IIRC were the USA's name for Clifford.
And theyre kewl. End of silly story

I found the shock sensor before. It's on the passenger side under the dash, screwed to some air ducting. I know the brain is farther up under the dash. I have to remove a bunch of the dash to get some new speakers in there so when I do that I'll trace the white wire and find this damn switch. For now I just put the alarm in valet mode with the remote. Makes working around it in the garage much easier.
Thanks for all the help.
