stupid virus

Post by joyride »

So I managed to obtain the W32.Rontokbro@mm virus somehow. It pops up on my symantec scanner and I reboot and it will sometimes go away. If I leave my laptop on at school, it will usually come back. I have tried everything to try and remove it, but it keeps coming back. Do you think I keep getting it from my school network? I find that it will nto pop up when I am at home.

Stay away from norton and mcafee. Even 360...No offense to those that like it....Just take it from me...I do virus and spyware removal on Many machines on a daily basis at my shop. I know what doesnt work.

some stuff to try:
http://avast.download--free.net/
http://free.grisoft.com/
get both anti virus and anti spyware.
http://www.kaspersky.com/

If all you are running is Norton, try running Anti spyware software as well. Most likely if you are virus infected you're probably infected with spyware/malware as well.
try these:
http://www.superantispyware.com/
http://www.pestpatrol.com/
http://www.safer-networking.org/en/spybotsd/index.html
http://us.trendmicro.com/us/products/pe ... index.html

Try some of those....

Here's an expert from some website i found a while ago:
To Remove A Virus Properly:

1) Delete Temp Files and Cookies
(a) Go to control panel and click internet and network connection's.
(b) Click internet option's.
(c) Delete temp file's along with offline content when prompted, delete cookies, and clear history.
(d) Click apply, click ok.
now follow direction's below.

2) Turn off system restore.
(a) Right click mycomputer.
(b) Click properties.
(c) Click system restore tab.
(d) Put a check mark in turn off system restore.
(e) click apply, click ok.

3) Safeboot your computer.
(a) Click Start.
(b) Click Run.
(c) Type msconfig, Click ok.
(d) Click Boot Ini.
(e) Check SafeBoot.
(f) Click Apply, Click ok. Now reboot
Note: You can press f8 repeatedly when booting up and choose safe mode.

4) Run your removel tool if there was one. If it ask's to reboot, then reboot, but be sure to stay in safeboot mode upon rebooting.

5) Run a full system scan with your antivirus program, removing any entries the virus has created.

6) Reboot back into regular mode.
(a) Click Start.
(b) Click Run.
(c) Type msconfig Click Ok.
(d) On general tab tick normal start up.
(e) Click Apply, click ok.
Optional: Click startup tab and uncheck safe mode if it is there. This may stop the messege you recieve when rebooting back into normal mode.
Note: Or you can reboot back into normal mode by rebooting and when it ask's select normal mode.

7) In regular startup mode run your antivirus again.
A) Remove the virus if one is still detected.
Note: Virus's can create reg keys. You will need to find your paticular virus on the net and read what reg keys you can safely delete. this is optional and last choice if virus isn't removed entirely.

8) Turn system restore back on once you have cleaned your system of the virus.
(a) Right click mycomputer.
(b) Click properties.
(c) Click system restore tab.
(d) Uncheck disable system restore.
(e) Click apply, click ok.

Try that method as well...and see if that helps. Good Luck. Let us know how it goes.
