2 sets of speakers, 1 passive, 1 active, what to do?

Post by smgreen20 »

I'm in the middle of doing my doors. Since no one can answer my other question about the Ti Elite Xover, here are my other thoughts.

HU: Eclipse CD8455

Choice A: PG RSD65cs active being amped by a ZX450v2 @ 90wrms- mids, 75 wrms- highs

Choice B: PG Elite6s passive being powered by the ZPA0.3 @ 225 wrms per ch.

I have 30 bands of eq available for EACH channel via the Audio Control DQS. What to do, what to do?

I'm usually a fan of more power. But I think with the DQS you'd be best with the active set-up using the 450. That would make best use of that processor.

I wish they made that processor in a 4-way. I would buy it a heartbeat!

My only concern is that the RSD set up will not keep up w/the sub as the Elites do.

Active on them might, but they didn't keep up real well w/the sub passive.

BTW, The sub is a TREO SSi12.22 in a 2.25 ft^3 box tuned to 33Hz @900 wrms.

Greg, Bdubs is talking about the JBL MS8.

Smgreen20, what are you trying to accomplish by running both sets of components? Are they both going in the front?

The Ti Elite tweet is very sensative to DC currents and I've heard nightmares of people blowing their tweets when going active or I would. That would be my ideal choice, but I'm to scared to.

I have about 14" from bottom to top in my door pods and wanted to make use of the space w/a 2nd mid, but the only other mid I have is from the RSD set. I'm to broke to buy a set of TI Elite mids on ebay.

I'm running mine active with 4 x 150 watts to the 5 1/4's and tweeters. X-over on the tweeter set at 3.15k and up on a 12db slope. Haven't had any problems with mine so far. I'm not being wimpy with them either. I play anything from Clair Marlo to Pantera at extremely high levels.

I've heard of problems with the tweeters but never had any problems of our own. I've had Morel people tell me that PG's x-over was a problem for them. Of coarse you gotta take a grain of salt with any manufacturer's excuses for problems. But then again I've never had any problems with the Morels either.

As a matter of fact, after hearing about this problem I got a 2nd set for back-up but never needed them. I've been running mine active for going on 2 yrs without faulting I'd say give it a try. Don't be afraid
