arcylic enclosure

Post by Stereo Junkie »

I would like to know if the 1/2" lexan is less or more flexible than the 1" arcylic. I can find both sheets 4'x8' around the same price, only the thickness is different. I know lexan is supposedly stronger, but I need some advice here.

Thanks,

Good luck getting the 1" acrylic to flex. Hope weight is not a concern!!!
Regarding durability polycarb (Lexan) is more impact resistant.
Planning on a solid box or just a window?

Dont think acrylic is flexible. A good place to call would be kel-tech plastics in Tacoma. They are pretty cool and dont mind answering questions

lexan isnt supposedly stronger, it IS stronger, however, it is still very flexible, and I think you would definately be better going with 1in acrylic. (though I still am unsure if it would be dead enough)
I'm afraid of widths.

I am thinking about doing an all clear box for my 2 13w7's modeled off the current MDF box I have (see one of my other post that has pictures). If I could get my hands on the 1" acrylic then I would be able to do my normal bang-the-object-with-my-hand to test for flexiblility, but I have yet to find a place in the the DFW area that has either of these in stock (1" acrylic or 1/2" lexan).

Thanks,

Check some local fish stores to see if they have any tanks built from cast acrylic.
