shared airspace or seperate?

Post by capitolj80 »

i'll be running 2 rsd12's @ 1.63cu per sub (net.)...would it be acoustically beneficial for them to share airspace (about 3.3) or does it not matter?...the setup i had in mind would have them in seperate box with the amp racks between them. I do however have a nice design in mind if they should share airspace.
what if the hokey pokey really is what it's all about?

i usually base the decision based on what signal they are getting.

ie, a monoblock amp i use one chamber, a channel to each sub...multi chambers.

iirc you are using a mono block?

then i wont really matter. the single chamber for each sub will be nicer for if you happen to blow a sub. it doesn't really make an acoustical difference.

it's a mono...rsd1200.1...and i'll be using your 250.2 for my rsd6.5's too! all this will actually become a sonic reality when i can finally order my h/u around the same time as yer amp ;)

A wall between the subs will add stiffness as well... that does marginally improve the sound quality as well. I certainly wouldn't lose any sleep about not having a wall either, as long as the box is rigid enough.

the box is gonna b rock solid...i guess i'll prolly just decide wich setup is cosmeticaly better and roll with that as long as the subs perform the same either way.

yeah, with a monoblock amp, you should be fine either way.

actually if you use a single amp to push both subs you may get better results having them shared....

just brace the box really good and it will be fine.

do a vent down teh center between the two then it becomes the brace.

and you will have more room for the vent.

would look nicer too.
You may have subs in your car........but my doors sound better!

build whatever is easier and cheaper. i just see no point to having 2 chambers as opposed to one other than the extra bracing the box would obviously have.

well the reason this was in question for me is cuz i was gonna have two horizintal amp racks between the two boxes...i just wanted to know if acoustically it'd make a difference...i still may use a shared chamber cuz i've got a nice wing design for that too...the concensus seems to be that the speakers dont care if they share space as long as the box is rigid enuff...if anyone has reason to believe these subs (rsd12's) do make bigger or better sound sharing space, i'd love the input...thnx all
