As I was under the hood of my van today I was eyeing my inline KF fuse block located inches from my battery and was thinkin to my self as I looked at the inner fuse(the part that blows) that it is realativitally thin , and whats the use of upgrading your power wire to larger gauges for more current and performance when the power itself has to go through the small flat strip of metal in the fuse? I thought about this before but never really looked into this. A fuse now to me is a splice in the line that limits the power and current.
Example: Wouldnt this be the same? lets say you wer erunning 1/0 g wire from the battery and before it entered your firewall the 1/0 was cut and inbetween the firewall to connect the 1/0 gauge to the other half of the 1/0 g you place a strip of 18 auge wire , that would resist alot of the original current that your were trying to seek correct? Going with a gauge of wire like 1/0 is suppose to be a upgrade but when it goes through the fuse it has to loose its upgrade features?
So to protect your amps and electrical components and to keep the vitality of the power wire used it would be better to ditch the inline fuse's that seperate the batery from the wire and to go with a circuit breaker for best performance?

Yep, it's the distance that requires such large power wiring. As an example, take the traces inside an amp, they aren't fat like 1/0 yet carry all that power through them (albeit routed through components).
its my understanding that the more strands of wire you have in the power cable the better, as electricity travels around the outside of strands not threw the middle more strands=more surface??? ive also wondered about fuses vs. breaker, is there a benefit to breakers besides being easy to dc power when you are working on stuff?
The breaker looks cooler than a regular fuse.......
But I've always used them.

some claim that the breaker doesnt provide as good of protection, but i have never seen anything to give credit to that (doesnt mean its not worth looking into.
as far as the additional strands in cable, jes that is true. i'm not sure how much difference it makes in real pratice, but i have noted all high end cable goes with this theroy. plus, the more strands in the cable, the more flexable it is and easy to work with
