My PG Budget Build

How does this look? At the moment I'm thinking of just running passive, as this is my first build and I wanna get everything right (while being fairly simplistic).

*PG RSD-65CS up front
*RSD12d in back in sealed box (might build one, might buy a prefab, still undecided)
*Alpine CDA-9884 head unit
*Alpine MRP-m500
*Alpine MRP-f300 bridged for 150w rms x 2

I'll probably just run the rear speakers off the HU, and not use them unless I have rear passengers...my car is an '05 Civic Sedan.

Total: ~$750

(I had filled out links for everything, but had to take them out until I have 1 post )

You will love the RSD speakers, great bang for the buck. Can't comment on the amps though....

thats a damn solid system there. sounds like you have everything dialed in. the RSD's will love the extra power bridged.

are the tweets in the civic in the top of the door in a little pod?

if so, you might have to find some fleece to put over the tweeters. i have noticed that when they get mounted up high, they are often overpowering.

Everything in my Civic is stock, so I'm not sure where the best place for tweeter placement is...

Also, I was reading and found the "professional" review of the RSD12d, and it said that a 1.8 cu. ft. enclosure was best for SQ. If I bought a prefab box, the largest I could get would be 1.63 cu. ft. How much would the sound quality differ between the 2 sizes?

it will be pretty small. i think you will be very happy with it. not even a "SQ" issue at that size. the bigger box allows it to extend lower...it shouldn't effect overall quality of the output. i only know a handful of people who could tell the difference, let alone care.

Build a box!!!! Prefab's are OK but not the best. They serve a purpose but if yer worried about quality then I recommend building a custom box. That leads to custom trunk panels and other kool install shit that makes all the effort worth it. Everybody has a sub and deck installed these days but how many KUSTOM installs do you see............

Personally I would use some old school PG amps. I have a simillair setup in DD, but with PG amps and RSD10.

Or a step in between shoot for the CDA 9886, not as much as the 9887, but the is definately a noticable difference in SQ from the 9884. I got mine from " The Bay" for $235.00 BNIB..

Hmm, besides the 4v preamp vs. 2v preamp, I don't think there should be sound quality difference, right? And since this is my first build, I thought I'd go with the 2v preamp and see if I notice anything.

looks like a great start if this is your first. I only have a 2v preout , wish it was 8v but who doesnt.

If you can keep noise out of your RCAs and if those Alpine amps are designed to accept a 2V signal (spec to look for is input sensitivity) then you will be fine with the 2V output.

Raising your output voltage is often about keeping the signal high above the noise floor. If your amps are happy seeing the 2V signal and you don't have any noise issues, you will be satisfied.

Build the box your self, it will be cheaper and better and worth it.
