I was continuing my ebay search for a eclipse 8454 when I came across a pretty clean CD8445 BIN for $200. I have seen the 8454's selling for that, but not many in a while, so I figured it was a bit high, but still fair. I wrote the guy, and asked him if he would take $200 shipped, basically saving me about $15. Then I was bored, and waiting for a reply, and I checked the guys feedback, and lo and behold he bought this CD player off ebay less than 2 months ago for $104.49. He used the same pictures and description as the original sellers... I wrote him back after seeing this, and told him to disregard my offer.
Anyhow, am I just butt sore, or do you guys think this is shady as well. I have no problem with someone buying something and making improvements of some sort and reselling, but to just sit on something for 2 months, and then try to sell it for a 100% profit... A few bucks, yeah, that is cool, but double your money for nothing. I think it's shady.

So, is this shady, or no?
I know some people dont like that and get upset when they find that someone is making extra on an item. Thats just the way it is in an auction. I dont like it much either, but I too have gotten a few good deals on the bay....And sometimes not. Just all depends on what one person would care to pay for an item. If we could NEVER search Ebay auctions and find the OLD auctions that people may have previously paid for said item or even a different but same item, then Ebay prices most likely could even be HIGHER. Of course could be lower too, but just think about it. If all you could see was what was selling and not what has been sold, and you know the going rate on what something goes for RETAIL...and not necessarily ebay, then realistically I think prices would be much higher if that be the case.
I understand your pains, as do most of us, but unfortunately it's hard to make money on ebay these days if you are trying to make some. If you are just selling to sell cuz it's sitting in your garage, then thats one thing. So you'll have to decide for yourself tho. If I saw that I may not buy. But I do understand the motivation to sell. Again I've gotten a great deal on a few things, and have since either used them or turned around and made a profit. But thats how it goes sometimes.
They were lucky to find the deal. Just figure out how what you would want to pay and if it's too much then let it be. Otherwise dont deal with the guy.
I see nothing wrong with it but dont like it either cuz I wish I could have paid as little as he did. But thats the way it goes!

I hear you. I know it happens all of the time. But, this guys first reply to me when I offered him $200 shipped was: I can't accept that because after ebay and paypal fees I won't even be able to break even...
It is hard to research something like these HU's on ebay. There are very few of the 8445's that go up. There have been a lot of 8454's recently, but they are all BNIB still, so can't really compare those prices.
I can't blame anyone for wanting to make a buck but, damn, I was irritated. Anyhow, I don't typically get sucked into bidding wars, and I set an upper limit for what I will spend. I have been doing the auction thing since way before ebay. Oh well, I am over it now. I dug the pearl out of my vanaynah

Re: So, is this shady, or no?
I have no problem with it, as long he is honest about. ie if it doesn't work he eats the cost. This is no different than how much of the economy works. Their usually is a retailer who provide a service product and marks up the price for his services. This just happens to be an individual. If no one like the price they don't have to buy it. My neightbor does this with yard sales and ebay's his finds. He this is a cost associated his time. Cost answer all the ebay questions etc. The car Audio field is sort of spoiled by the ebay gray market sales and insider discounts.Jacampb2 wrote:I was continuing my ebay search for a eclipse 8454 when I came across a pretty clean CD8445 BIN for $200. Scum bag liar! I would send him back a link to the original purchase. Someone who will tell you anything to make a few extra bucks and a sale, is not some you want to deal with.Jacampb2 wrote:But, this guys first reply to me when I offered him $200 shipped was: I can't accept that because after ebay and paypal fees I won't even be able to break even...
