Help Choosing Comps, RSDs or Xenons?

Post by revrider1 »

Im needing some 6.5" Comps for my car. I was set on some 6.5" PG RSDs. I came across some Xenon 6.5" for sale. How do they compare in sound? Thanks

In my experience the Xenons had slightly better midrange, but lacked substantially in midbass. The RSDs sound way better overall, playing nice and deep with minimal effort. The Xenons look like better speakers, and the versatility of being able to coax mount the tweeters is handy, but for most people, unnecessary.

I would go with the RSDs personally, especially if you aren't going to be seeing them.

I was just wanting the Xenons to match my amps, But im most likely gonna get the RSDs. I hear alot of good things about them. How much can the RSDs take really? Wattage? I have had mixed thoughts...

i like the RSD's hands down

the ONLY thing the xenon speakers have over the RSD's is the 200-300 hz range.

the RSD's have Much better midbass, almost identical tweets.

the Xenon mids have HUGE magnet/motor structures which are hard to install. the xenon's also have a crossover that is a single large unit for both left and right, which is harder to find a place for in your install.

Im reading on other site, and both stated above are the supposed downfalls of the Xenons. The crossover issue and the lack of midbass. Thanks for the info...

Just wondering now how many watts the RSDs can really take? I have a local deal for a Xenon 200.2, but i would assume 200+watts for the RSDs would be to much? Im also considering a Xenon 100.2 if nothing else. Thanks

i just installed a x100.2 (with a birth sheet of 122 per channel) in my brothers car and the RSD's love it.

i think they would be able to handle the 200.2, but it would be unnecessary

I can get a 200.4 local for cheap, I know I dont need all the power. But its good to leave the 2 rears open and have some headroom. Would 200watts hurt the RSDs if I were to pick it up? I mean, its gonna cost about the same as a 100.2 elsewhere...THANKS

go for it. the rsd's have a good warranty :)

plus they would likely get much louder then you would ever want before you actually reached 200 watts on the 200.4

I've been running mine on a x200.2 for a while now. They don't seem to mind.
