My sad realization...
I'm almost now ashamed to admit it but I finally realized today that the only iPod that appears to have real digital out on the dock connector is the 5.5G iPod.
Damnit.
And all this time I though my Alpine "Full-Speed" connector was using a digital signal and the Alpine's DAC but no, it is very much an analog line-out signal. The Alpine iDA-X001 uses a USB interface for the 5.5G only that does do digital so the 24-bit Burr Brown DAC really is used.
Well, I can't say for sure it's the 5.5G iPod that does digital out, but it's the only one that Alpine claims to support this way.
Now my idea for what kind of head unit I might upgrade to in the future has totally changed. Now I questions whether it would be better to just get a mount for the iPod and an AUX input because my iPod touch itself is easier (FASTER!) to navigate with than the Alpine unit controls for searching through music but much less convenient for doing the basic "next song" type one button controls (especially since it's at a perfect hand level for when I'm in 3rd and my hand is on the stick).
Gah.
Thoughts?
Damnit.

I would like to have ford's synk system but not in a ford. "Play artist Micheal Bolton".....................
Who knows whats gonna come out next in the world of HU's. Seems like one of these companys are gonna go to an SD stick and turn it into an ipod on the touch screen......if it hasn't been done already......or even a wireless link to yer laptop.
My sad realization is that I can't afford kool shit like that....

Those tender little burgers with them little, itty-bitty grilled onions that just explode in ya mouth like flavor crystals every time you bite into one.. just makes me want to burn this muthafuka down.... Come on, Pookie, let's burn this muthafuka down!!!

If one wanted to you could just use a laptop for your head unit and I actually thought about it.
I dont use the ipod anymore my 1 gig got old then my 4 gig died and now I am using a 4 gig Zune and could not be happier. In my opinion the Zune software blows away itunes and the navigation is quite easy. So bang for the buck and quality I would recommend the Zune

Apparently it does not... or at least there are no products that would make use of it. My iPod touch is reported as not working with the Alpine iDA-X001 USB connection (works with the Full-Speed though) that the 5.5G supports.flogger11 wrote:im gonna have to check if there is a dig out on the 3g...
