had to be the impedance, right?

Post by capitolj80 »

my cousin was running a couple of audiobahn 4ohm dvc 12s on an rsd1200.1. apparently, he had them wired to 1ohm, not 4. had i known this, i'd have slapped him with my shame glove. i became aware of it when he said that his amp had kept going into protect and then one of he subs just wouldnt work... so i checked it out and discovered that the subs were presenting too low of an imedance. i'm assuming that continually running at 1ohm blew the one speaker and the other is now running without a hitch cuz by itself, it's at 2ohm...does my diagnosis sound correct?
what if the hokey pokey really is what it's all about?

If 1 is blown but still hooked up with the other 1 its still at a 1 ohm load.

1 ohm with bass boost off and low gains should have still worked... it sounds like he's got everything all cranked up.

Personally, I would recommend he switch to one sub for now. Should be a negligible difference in output, but it will sound better and keep the amp running in it's comfort zone.

I don't think he has a choice at this point......

Is a DMM not a standard piece of equipment anymore....? I always meter subs to make sure they are wired correctly before they see power.(after that 1 time ) Mainly cus :bong:  is involved during the install and it's cheaper to make sure than think yer sure.....
But I guess everybody is a newby at some point.....rite......

Did you check to see if the other sub was wire correctly in parallel? any loose wires on the sub? He may have blown the other one because it wasnt hooked up correctly and only one coil was working , IDK

yeah..sorry, i forgot about this thread...but yeah, both sub were wired in parallel and everythin was secure...the gain was at just over half and the boost was at about a quarter...the only prob i could find was the 1ohm load...i guess one of the subs could tolerate it better than the other...he's rockin a couple of rsd 12s (@2ohm) on there now, so it's all good

The sub doesnt care what impedance its ran at  The sub probably and problems and the power running at 1 ohm from the amp most likely done it in
