Finally got time to install my new tweeters.
First opened up the hole for the tweeter. Then drilled out holes around the opening to allow the bondo to seep through. Bondo doesn't stick well to plastics so this will insure it will hold. Then using the tape 'trick', I taped off the tweet and added a couple of layers of tape around the edges of the tweet so the 'mold' left in the bondo is slightly larger then the tweet to accommodate for the thickness of the material used to finish with. If i was painting or texturing it, 1 or 2 layers would be fine. But since I was wrappig in material, I used about 7 layers.
I placed the tweeter in the a-pillar and bondo'd all around to create a build-up so the finished piece will look flush. Once the bondo dried I popped out the tweeter and sanded to suit. Then wrapped in suede. Done.

Now I just need to find time to finish the side panels.

Those tender little burgers with them little, itty-bitty grilled onions that just explode in ya mouth like flavor crystals every time you bite into one.. just makes me want to burn this muthafuka down.... Come on, Pookie, let's burn this muthafuka down!!!
Bfowler .. Bondo is your friend!
Shaheen .. Thanks! Yea the packing peanuts trick is a good way to get a close approximation of non-square shapes. I was being 'anal' and water will give you an exact measurement. The door enclosures obviously are fiberglass but it was important to get them exactly the same so I didn't have to worry about any differences from left to right. As well as the subs.
Stupid .. It isn't as bad as it looks. Suede has NO give to it and it was still pretty easy. The trick with funky shapes is to start with the hardest part. Then work it out over the rest of the peice where it's easier to deal with wrinkles and such.
Oh, and I'm sorry for being such a slacker.
Fuzzy .. Thanks! If you need any pointers let me know I'd be glad to help if needed.

I'm going to flush mount tweets in a Yukon for both front and rear. I'd never really seen the "hole trick" before.

Brandon's got it in his How-To's as well.FuzzyHoNutz wrote:I'm going to flush mount tweets in a Yukon for both front and rear. I'd never really seen the "hole trick" before.

Now that my tweeters are done I was able to finish the rest of the headliner and trim in suede. Of-coarse I used the bondo trick for the logo.

I also had to do some work that required me to pull the kicks out so I took the opertunity to get a few more detailed pics of the finished kick area.
Fist I sound deadened the baffle that was glassed into place. I used texturecoat to match the oem finish then used SEM vinyl dye to match the color of the interior pieces.
