Alpine type X 10"? TI 1000.2 AL + ZX450

Post by trl2112 »

I have a chance to pickup an Alpine type X 10", a TI 1000.2 AL + ZX450. The guy does not want to separate (I am really interested in the amps). The amps are a little worn for my taste but I can not beat the price, and it's local. How do the AL series amps clean up? There is a lot of smug marks (surface transfer) not many scratches.

Can anyone provide any feed back on this sub?

He is running it off 1 channel of the 1000.2, in a generic prefab box. It hit pretty hard!

Anything I should ask about or look for on these used amps? The zx450 is not hooked up but he guarantees it's functioning.

Any feedback would be great.

Jesus you are up early...

Anyway, those are the amps that i was running. Its a great setup with a lot of flexibility. Seems a little overkill for a single sub like that though. My amp was rated at 1175 x 1 @4 ohm on the birthsheet. Just be aware that it will pull around 150+ amps of current, so plan on some serious power accessories.

How hard would it be to make a quick swap out if the one is already installed? If it were me, i would take the 5 minutes to swap the amps just to be sure it runs. From what I know, neither amp had anything that was prone to serious failure.

I like the Type-X line a lot, but to my ears, the Type-R series sounds just as good and requires less power to get them moving. I've heard some Type-X subs ported that simply growl, but if you're looking at a sealed enclosure, I'd go with the Type-R. Or sell the Type-X and get 2 Type-Rs with the money!

You'll also have a lot more wiring configurations with the R series. The X is DVC 4ohm only, and the R comes available in 2ohm or 4ohm DVC. RMS on the R series is 500 watts, 1000 on the X series. You can grab a pair of Rs on fleabay for about $175 + S/H and right there you've doubled your subwoofer surface area.

Also, if memory serves well (and it hardly does), the xmax on both sub lines are pretty similar. 18.1mm on the R, 19mm on the X...Same frequency response too.

but if your BUYING subs to replace the type X....keeping it in the alpine family isn't the way to go imo.

alpine makes some great stuff, but that the same Price point, some RSD's, or some ID's will out do the alpines. just my .02

That's a good point. If staying in the same power category and a single sub setting, I'd choose something like an IDMAX 10". Don't they like around 1000 rms? If I had the funds to ditch my Type-R setup for something like an IDMAX12V.3 D4, I'd do it in a heartbeat. I can't seem to find a decent price on them though...Seriously one of the best subs I've ever heard.

Thanks guys.

I have been leaning towards a single IDMAX or RSDc. If the guy will not split up just the amps. I will probably let the type x go and get one of these.
