I don't mind most of the songs the more you listen they kinda grow on you. The sound quality however is absolutely terrible. Also about james singing he doesn't scream when he sings like he used to because bob rock said he will lose his voice if he keeps singing like that and hired him a voice coach.

Well I got this cd for my birthday ( I probably wouldn't have payed for it myself). I think the music is better then in recent past.

With that said ... THE FUCKING RECORDING IS TOTAL SHIT! Forget the fact that there is virtually NO bottom end to recording. Some of the tracks are recorded clipped! I first thought maybe they intended it to be that way(track 4) but even in track 6 or 7 when it's mellow and James is trying to sing ( ) it's clipping. It may not be noticable on some pos mp3 player but on my system I can't even stand to listen too it.

WTF is going on in the recording industry these days? Sqwash the dynamic range and overdrive the recording levels so it sounds equally like shit whether you play it through crappy earbud headphones or an awesume Bose Wave radio?

I listened to one track in mp3 form and I partially attributed the crappiness of the recording to a compressed audio format... I was wrong!

Ya! I just read the shit on the link Brett posted and could've saved myself the hastle of posting my opinion and just reposted it. Seems a petition with over 13,000 signatures wasn't enough to get them to think seriously about re-editting it. Also appears as though it was 'known' before the release and was supposed to be fixed. But they left it go anyway. Also claims that the guitar hero version is editted correctly and that everyone should just rip those cuts off the game. Are you serious?!

On the subject of lameness, AC/DC is doing an exclusive Walmart deal in America... Walmart really wants these "exclusive" deals badly. I guess getting owned by iTunes kinda pissed them off.

I listened to about 4 tracks on the album and I am not as happy with it as a first thought i would be. It has that Justice type sound and has potential but like others have stated it just isnt recorded good like In justice was and is lacking .

although i may have to listen to a few more again because I got mine from Amazon mp3 and they might have the updated tracks

Music is AWESOME!!!! The GH3 rips sound better in ways.....It seems RIck Rubin had a lot more say in the "sound" than the band. They apparently signed a contract allowing him a certain amount of say in what the album sounded like. I'm over it now. I have a version that sounds good, and Metallica is just fun to listen too, period. I will definitely catch the tour when its close by. :)

Hopefully in their live performances the bottom end will be brought up. I've seen them 3X and when they played their older stuff, pre Justice, the lower end was very present.

IMHO they need to re-record/remaster their first 3 albums.

Greg, I know exactly what you mean by the clipping sound. A band like that has balls and aren't afraid to use them. I just don't know why they didn't in this case.

INFO TIME: I live and grew up in Lafayette, IN- home of GN'R front man Axle Rose. My mom's friends w/his Step-dad and I know a guy (the one that tought me how to play the drums) Jeff, he played the drums in one of Axles first "porch" bands, not garage  , but he knows Kirk from Metallica from that GUNS N' Metallica tour 12 yrs ago.

IF, that's a big IF, I can get ahold of Jeff, I'll ask if he can ask Hammett about a re-record.

old thread update The album was recorded very shitty and compressed. If you go look for the guitar hero version torrent it sounds 10x better than the original copy.

I hope they "re-master" (see: properly master) this eventually and officially release it as such. I've tried to give this a go in my car and it sounds like things are dying and melting. My poor speakers don't deserve the punishment.

I am sure it will get a re-master in 10-15 years like all the other albums. :) I guess we will have to wait. Or just play them on Guitar Hero! Only one I cannot pass on expert is The Day That Never Comes....some parts of that solo are ridiculous. :) GH: Metallica is a blast too!!
