Exile 1200.1 or Xenon 1200.1 or anything else?

Post by phonixx »

Hello my friends!

I`m looking for some new amps for my subwoofers. I have 4 Alpine 10" Dual 4ohms so i need either 1 amp that i pushing its full potensial at 2 ohm (approx 2400W) or 2 amps that push their full potensial at 4ohm or 1 ohm (approx 1200w) so that the Alpine get about 600w each. I use a RSD 1200.1 for the subs today giving them 300-350W each and that is hitting hard but i like to try to feed them with some more power.

I could not buy another RSd1200.1 because it need 2ohm to push out max and with 4 dual 4ohms subwoofers that not possible, with 2 subwoofers on each amp i will get either 4ohm or 1 ohm so i can not use Exile2400.1 either because it recuires 1ohm to put out 2400W.

Any suggestions what amps i should be looking for?

Thanx

The Xenon would be a good choice. I would also vote for a Sundown SAE-1000D or SAZ-1500D, RF Power 1500, US Amps Merlin MD-2D etc.

How about some different subs instead? How cheap are RSD competition woofers in Norway?

If you wanna keep the subs. I'd say get two Exile 2400.1 and strap them together @ 2ohms and get 4800W. You'll have all the headroom you'd ever want. :D

so i know tom asked this before, but it wasn't really answered.

whats the advantage of strapping in this situation as opposed to running 2 subs per amp?

Nada. Strapping should only be used when you can't split up the load evenly, for example powering a single DVC 4 ohm woofer. In that case on a 2 ohm parallel load, it would present 1 ohm to both amps, which puts them at their ideal impedance. However, putting one amp on each coil would only get you 4 ohms. This is where strapping is useful.

With 4 subs, running an amp per pair (gain matched) would be much better IMHO. This would get rid of a lot of the noise inherent in strapping amps, which is like bridging, only with two separate and often unsynchronized powersupplies. Bridging itself almost always causes your THD to drop, and strapping is usually even worse.

^thats what i thought.

i only saw strapping as useful when both amps are powering either 1 SVC sub, or one coil

Thanx for the answers, there are not any PG dealers in Norway as far as i know so i have to look for them on Ebay or some online store. The one thing i like about the Alpine`s is that they can play in only 14 liters. In how small boxes can i put the RSD 10"?

Thanks

RSD competition 10" will work extremely well in 14 liters. The regular RSDs would need a tiny bit more space, but the 10" still take reasonably small boxes.

Thanx Stipud, i think i have to try to change the Alpine`s with the RSD Competition and add an extra 1200.1.

Is the RSD Competition "better" than the ordinary RSD sub?
