I need some help.
I have a Clarion max in dash dvd unit and would like to hook up a tv tuner. The thing is I would like to have a digital tv tuner so I can pick up local channels. Does anyone know of a company that makes one? Thanks
I wouldn't bother with a TV tuner. Analog broadcast will cease in a few months. Satellite would be your only option. Audiovox makes a dish set-up. Big as a cargo carrier!

I've seen others that were a little smaller but not much. Can't remember who though.
Sirius also offers a 3 channel feed called Backseat TV. I think it's Disney, Nickelodeon and the Cartoon network.

Here's what you do... (my reccomendation)... If you can, maybe just get the normal, now very cheap as they are going obsolete - kinda, analog TV Tuner... and then get a DAC.
I had a past customer tell me they (the DAC's) are apprx $49/69.00 (cheaper on the bay I bet)... I know this because the DVD headrests we sell, one model (the REV III) has built in Analog TV Tuner, and I have had two past customers tell me that one of them got a DAC made by PYLE (I think) and now he gets the digital stations i.e.: 3.1, 3.2, and 3.3, (Digital, Widescreen, and HD TV Signal Formats) and loves it. The other guy told me he simply went to his local TV/Audio/Stereo place and they had a DAC that was optionally run via 9 volt battery. If i'm not mistaken, this is exactly what youre looking for... (perhaps... if you do not find digital TV Tuner for auto)... As it stands now I am looking at getting a DC powered DAC, as I the REV III's with the (Analog) TV Tuner in the car, and will need to get the DAC here shortly.
The US Goverment also has/offers like 50%, or 50.00 dollar coupons for the purchase of a whole mess of DAC's. The battery operated one, cant recall name, but the battery operated one was on the Goverments list, so the guy at the shop told my past customer a web site to go to to get the coupon. I have since called a local shop from me, and they carry same DAC, well at least they did when I had called about a month ago.
More to come in just short bit...

Here is the link to go to, to get started...
https://www.ntiadtv.gov/home.cfm
ALL THE INFO YOU'LL NEED TO KNOW - offers a complete list of coupon elligible DAC's, etc...
Take mine for example... I have a source box for the DVD headrests in which that is where the TV Tuner resides, and has a co-ax cable to it which the analog antennae then runs up to the windshield.
So it would be like nothing for me to introduce the DAC in between the antennae and source box in which the TV Tunner resides. thus allowing the TV tuner to receive digital braodcasting format(S)... (perhaps A digital antenna is also neccessary, I just havent gotten that far yet) It is my understanding that all the "rabbit ears" need to keep going after the Feb '09 Change over is the DAC.. haven't also heard that new antennaes would need to be purchased as well... But I know they have them... so I dunno... Maybe that's just optional??
BUT
ALSO Bear in mind that the DAC Converter box coupon program was probably (cant say for sure) intended for the lower income people/low tech savvy/older aged people that have never wanted cable or just couldnt/cant afford it... I'm sure it wasn't intended for the TV in the car type set-up's... but/and, just something to be mindfull when looking and trying to take advantage of the coupon with retailer... I could see a retailer saying "That's not what's it's for, it is for residential use, that coupon is not good for that, nor will we accept it for that... rah rah rah..." So you may just want to say that it's for a TV in the barn that you have no electrict running out there and need to have a DC powered (or optionally DC powered) DAC for use with the DC powered TV with the rabbit ears out in the barn.... Ya know???
hope this has also helped.

Question
Will I still need an antenna to receive programming?
Answer
You should be able to receive digital television signals with your existing broadcast antenna. If after you have installed your converter box you are having reception problems using your existing antenna, you may want to contact either your local broadcaster or the retail store where you purchased the converter box. Troubleshooting advice can be found at www.antennaweb.org or via the Federal Communications Commision at http://www.fcc.gov/cgb/consumerfacts/dtvantennas.html.

LASTLY:
It is kinda hard to find.. so here is the link for all the accepted DAC's under the coupon program offered by the US Gov:
https://www.ntiadtv.gov/cecb_list.cfm
Perhaps check w/ mfg, and or something to try to learn which ones are optionally DC powered, and/or in your area/at your local retailer...
example: I simply picked one off the list and searched eBay... shit their cheap enough, from there that is, a coupon probably is only valid at local retailer... and/but not sure how to learn if DC powered or not, unless ask each seller selling one??
http://search.ebay.com/search/search.dl ... 2&from=R18
AND here is all of them:
