anyone have a pics of tweeter installs where there wasn't already a spot for the tweeter to be mounted?

I originally had the TI6 Elite Tweets mounted where the original mountings for the tweets are on my 97 nissan maxima. They did not originally fit there, so I just made the hole bigger until they fit. This could have been done anywhere on the door, I just decided to put them where the original ones used to be because I thought it was a good position for them (then realized that car manufacturers don't know much about speaker positioning).

Sorry, but I have these door panels somewhere in my garage and can't get a pic right now, but you can google the door panel for the nissan maxima and see where I put them, just used a rotozip to make the hole bigger and used the tweeter mounts to mount it there.

i don't have any pics. the cars i work on always seem it have a factory location...kick panels and sail panels are almost always the easiest, and you wont have to cut a hole in your door panel.

if you post a picture or 2 we can probably help you find a good spot

Here are the ones I'm currently working on for my Scion. I placed them in the kick panels as they seem to have a nice flat middle surface that has a bit of an upwards plane that kinda puts the tweeters up at an angle. I think for Scion Tc, almost anywhere is better than the factory locations:

does it really matter where they're mounted..i know the direction matters..but like whether or not it has to be at ear level or below or above for better sq

General rule of thumb is to have all drivers as close together as possible. Forming a single point source. REALITY is this is a car and finding physical space to actually do that is the challenge. Then throw in the fact that the acoustic environment in a car is an even bigger battle.

It all depends on how serious you want to be about SQ and how far are you willing to go from a customizing aspect to make that happen. Things like time alignment, phaze shifters eq's etc can help tackle some problems but there is always going to be trade-offs and gains.

Mount your tweeter to double sided tape and move it around until you find a spot where it sounds best! It's one thing to install it somewhere, it's another to have it sound good.

Try your A-pillars, shooting across the dash (not towards you). Try far dash, aimed at the windshield. Try kickpanels. Try door panels.

yep. Also: if the distance from both of them to the centre of your head (measure it!) is less than 8" different, you should get a really good image, I know I did, without any time alignment.
Mine work best slightly off-axis, but I worked that one out in the living room with them

Most car audio tweeters are designed to be run off 45 degrees off axis (pointing 45 degrees away from your ears), since they are usually installed low in doors. Home audio tweeters on the other hand are designed to be run on axis (pointing towards you).

Car audio tweets installed on axis generally have a rise in high frequency, and home audio tweets mounted off axis will drop.
