Christmas in October ***UPDATE 10/6***

Post by deathcloud »

So finally my ups shipment came. It had both something i ordered from knuconcept and my BNIB xenon 200.4 oh boy what a great day.

pics
first we have the total stash
1 Neg Battery Terminal
1 Pos Battery Terminal
4 ft Grnd 0/1 awg
16 ft Power 0/1
150 amp in-line fuse with holder
Ground distro block
(father has pos distro block)
Image

-----------------------------
Next we have the beauty of an amp (well at least i think) and you are right about the size... THIS THING IS MASSIVE!!!! BUT I LOVE IT! It dwarfs my Ti 400.2 and just looks plain mean!
Image

Its so BNIB it actually came with its birthsheet i feel like a daddy!
Image

But question is can anyone read or understand what the total watts is? I tried to decipher it and the best I could come out with is 937 total watts.

I am so happy

Last thing before the major upgrade is my SLD-44 which arrives monday. I am getting way too excited.

Does it really matter? 930-something. 10 watts isn't going to matter at all in the grand scheme of things.

You're getting some 230 watts per channel. Be happy!

I hate knukonceptz battery terminals...I bought the "Konfused" battery terminals, they didn't fit properly (at all) on my red top or yellow top. So yea, good luck with those ones...

All of their other products are nice though, I'm using all KnuKonceptz, with the exception of a Tsunami battery topper in place of the defective battery terminals.

no i am super happy, i just thought there was a secret lingo i was missing. but yea now the question comes to setting my gain with a DMM. They have one at best buy in the install bay but none of my co workers of course have heard of the concept of using one, they replied "OH Are you going in a car show or something?" when I mentioned the thought of using one and stuff. But yea I was trying to understand it but here is my understanding

Because I have a xenon 200.4 I want to have the math done at 4 ohms because that's the highest ohms its rated at. So it would be

the root of (200 x 4)
root of 800
= 28.28 volts (THIS TEST IS DONE USING DMM CONNECTED TO THE + - of the X200.4 speaker terminals) Right?

Next part

Line driver

I have the gain of my x200.4 at basically turned all the way down, then on the line driver I slowly turn it up but on the other end of the RCA I have the DMM + - inserted into the RCA reading the amount of volts (does it matter + - Left or right for RCA?) which should be around 10 volts ill just say or before the peak light begins to blink then turn down a little ALL THIS IS DONE WITH HU 3/4 volume which is 22/30.

I want to make this perfect so i can blow them away at my knowledge and sound perfection. So please correct me if i am wrong so i dont blow anything up :)

I agree with you there. The batt terminals did not work at all for my application and the fitment was ultimate suckage. I've always trusted Stinger stuff for all my power distro needs. I'm a big fan of the Knukonceptz Krystal RCAs though. Especially the 4-channel.

Ok everyone sooooo

today I brought everything to the install bay of best buy.

As I was working at best buy the installer was doing everything. Battery terminals fit perfectly, wire was HUGE 0/1 awg the installer was like wow you are crazy. but he ran it back and then by the time i was off work he was done with the install and it was loud, but the line driver was at home as it just got shipped today to my house. I drove home and drove back with the BEAUTIFUL SLD-44 BNIB and showed the installer. He was like wow lets do this. So we first just hooked up the SLD-44 with power and did channel by channel gain adjustment. We didn't use a DMM cuz im still confused, so we did it by ear. I ALMOST FORGOT TO TURN MY GAIN DOWN on the x200.4 but I did this, and then we turned the SLD-44 up till it started to distort then backed it down. we had it 3/4 volume on a random song on my ipod. Anyways we did this channel by channel. The thing that confused me is on the PLD-1 it has a light for clipped signal. But on the SLD-44 it has a light for signal and it lights up and kinda fades away as the music peaks and what not. if that makes sense. I ran all the RCAs into the glovebox and that was A BITCH OMFG and I had to do it by myself because the installers left. Then I had to get the power ground and remote into there as well. Then put my whole dash and deck back together. I did it and I did it with pride. haha.

All in all, I have no clue what volts are running through my RCAs into the x200.4 and I have no clue what volts are comming out of the x200.4 speaker terminals but it sounds SO AMAZING. So loud, so clear, so crisp. The SLD-44 makes a huge audible diff. I swear. Now no install shall never lack a line driver. I can't wait to show all my friends and even my father. It even convinced my installer that he wanted my PLD-1 that i was telling him about. I'm so happy with my install. I think the last step I will go for is dynamat in the doors and trunk and ill call it greatness. Maybe ill try tuning with a DMM but i dunno im scared to touch it. (BTW my lights dim a little. is it because I am running 0/1 guage and its just draining my system. is my alt too small? should I do the big 3 upgrade? 4 guage upgrade to everything?)

Make sure you run a 0 gauge ground from your battery to the frame at the very least. Upgrading your alternator power wire to 4 gauge, and adding a 4 gauge ground to the alternator from the battery is also a good idea.

If you're still dimming after that, check your gains with the DMM, since clipping will cause much more power draw. It is very hard to hear clipping on bass, so if you set your sub gains by ear you may be overboard.

Glad to hear y have everything installed and are finally jammin.

Also , I think you are making the DMM adjusting method much harder then it actually is. I have a problem with the math part of things  but once I get that number I am out with the DMM making things right and now I dont think ill do it any other way.

Just unscrew the sub wires from your amp and place the DMM lead into the positive and negative. then turn your deck up to 3 forths or right bfeore clipping then adjust the gains on the SLD 44 or pld 1 untill you see around 28 volts AC on the DMM(remember to set the DMM to AC) and boom your done, Easy and accurate

I second that it is hard to tell clipping with bass/subs especially if they are loud.

I will try it. My sld-44 is going to my x200.4 front/rear, i didnt think that my rsd600.1 needed a line driver... but maybe ill try setting it to 2 chan on my x200.4 and running the line driver on the rsd600.1

shouldnt the math be
root of (600watts x 2ohms)
= 34.64 i believe

your 600.1 should be fine without the sld. does your deck have a separate sub level gain?

yesssir, 34.64 is correct

I was saying 28 because I seen you had that number above , I didnt do the math prior to posting  but you will see how easy it is.
