Good idea?

Post by Capital_M »

If you have looked at the for sale board you will see I am looking for a xenon or RSD 1200.1 and looking to get rid of my x600.1

I am planning powering 4 RSD 10's with the 1200.1

Never tried a 10 before, diggin the small box requirements.

And no, not the RSDc, don't have the money.

are they going to be ported?

you had a pair of rsd 12's before right?

the 10s are nice, but i'm all for less gear.

a pair of RSDc 12's would be about the same air and price as 4 rsd 10's...

I had one rsd12

I would do the 10's sealed, so about 2cuft total im guessing.

How much air space do the 12 rsdc need?

Im kinda leaning to the 10s becuase i can get more cone area, i want to thump and shake the car without having huge ported boxes and sloppy bass.

ah

the rsdc 12's are fine with about 1.2 each

but... 4 10's will also slam.

the F&F sale is coming up...you could snag all that gear there for a steal.

its on the 18th

Im not really near that sale :(

How much do you think the 10s would go for each?

And how are the 10 rsds anyway, ive heard a lot of good.

i know this...but some of your froum frineds are! (no pressure...just sayin...)

i have seen them go for 50-75.

they are great. basically everything the rsd12 has with a little less "shake your car apart" feeling. but four of them should change that

cool cool, if the RSD 10's are 50 i am down for 4 and xexon 1200.1 for 225 seems good, hopefully it will sell for less.

What do you think shipping would be for this stuff to toronto? 100? 150?

What do YOU think would slam harder off the 1200.1? 4 RSD 10's sealed or 2 RSDc 12's sealed?

no idea on shipping...use the USPS calculator for weight and use Portland (97267) as a starting zip code

you might have to bride someone to do a bass box mock up of it. it would be close. the 10's have more cone area, the 12's have more movement and are more efficient...are harder to come by too. there will be a a ton of rsd10's there...not so many rsdc's most likly.

if it was my system, i would go with the 12's. the RSDc 12 is *THE* perfect sub imho.

The only thing is the cost factor, im going to assue that rsdc's are not going to be as discounted as the rsds.

Anyone care to graph these? I have no clue how

how much space you want to give up to this?

The RSD10s would work great IB... (i.e. with a huuuuuge space behind them)

if you have 3 or so cu ft, the 12s will dig lower, but are not as loud being fed 1400W.
The 10s will be tighter (the Q of the box is lower), esp at 3.75 cubes.
120 dee beez as of 100Hz, below that flat in-car (probably), with a nice hump below 50Hz (again, probably). They look quite good :)

In your shoes? depends. If you want depth, do the12s. If you really, really want volume (not slam!) then the 10s. Slam will be about the same on both, as the group delay even at 30Hz is only 6ms for the 10s and 8 for the 12s.

Not much in it.

Im not willing to do an IB set up, only sealed. Im thinking of .5 or .5 cuft for each of the 4 rsd10.

The other option is 2 12 rsdc's with 2.2 net volume.

Everything would be crossed over at 80hz.

When I was running my RSD12 at 1.8 there was lots of low end which i loved but NO punch in the higher bass. I want that punch that hits you in the chest while still geting low and loud.

XO at 80? LR? that's too low for your slam. Raise it another 10Hz and test :)

Why? because an L-R will normally already be -3deBeez at the XO point. Which means that you're losing the 70Hz *thump* already too. yep. just confirmed it; fourth order (24dB/Octave) Linkwitz-Riley already is at -3dB at 73Hz if the XO is defined as 80Hz.

Those RSdCs look superb in that box. Wow.

Plotting it - there is *nothing* in it. SPL the same, group delay on the 12s mildly better.

Your call. attached, some screenshots...

Wow thank you!!

So basically they will sound very similar?

Im not 100% on how the graphs work but are you just graphing 1 woofer?

no, that's with 2x12s or 4x10s, both in 2.2cuft.

Ok, ic ic

Not to bad, but I was expecting it to be at least in the 125db area. How was it that people were getting 135db on music from there RSD12's and x600.1

Vehicle and box design.

I'm sitting in the hospital waiting room right now as I type. My wife is having surgery. That being said, she'll be off for the next 6 weeks so $$ is REAL tight. I'm trying to get my wife an RSDc10, but we'll have to wait and see.

By those graphs, I can get a rough idea on how the RSDc10 will perform.

That dB level is assuming you're in an anechoic chamber. In a car, the small environment gives you a boost in lower octaves called "cabin gain". It's usually something like 12dB/oct starting at 50-60Hz or so. This is why you see a graph drop down like that at 50Hz, but when you actually hear the woofer in the car, it will play deep bass just as loud as upper bass ;)

If a woofer were to play flat down to 20Hz in an anechoic chamber, the bottom end would be WAAY louder than the higher bass. This, to me, was the greatest shortcoming of the Xenon speakers. They played too low for a car... but would be perfect for a home, where you get much less environmental gain.

Ahh i see, once i get my carreer going I will have to get into home audio, I love that stuff. Xenons would make an amazing HT sub. Too bad there were no 15 xenons.

I hope this set up im planning sounds good.

....im pretty sure a 15" xenon would be a waste...the 10 play lower then most 15's i know....

yeah....dont let those graphs fool you. with 4 10's and ~1200 watts...i think the termlab would be damn close to 140
