dead short would be a direct connection between the terminals. this would cause a 0 resistance discharge of the cap, meaning it gives it's all with nothing slowing it down.

what does vw337 mean by this, the positive and negative terminals of a 1 farad cap touching one another?-I dont mean to sound ignorant, but im not sure i truly understand caps.-thanx guys Christian

Yes, a short is the Positive and negative of a Cap or any power source for that matter coming in contact with one another. It makes for a good light show

Don't worry it wont blow up (the cap that is). Unless you put too much voltage to it.
