Best HU w/ iPod Interface
Subject kind of says it all, not too sure how many companies have the iPod interface, I know Alpine has this and I have always been an alpine man.
The system it will be going into is pretty much nothing, its my work truck and I basically just want to fiberglass a dock into the center console so that I can plop my iPod/iPhone in and be able to control it with the HU.
Might build some kicks and throw some amps in but that won't come for a while as there is limited room in this truck. Regular cab Ranger and I am 6'3" and it's way too cramped as it is.
Lay your suggestions on me.

Haven't bought it yet, but I'm 99% sure I'll go with the Clarion DXZ785USB.
The "Full Speed" iPod connection with my Alpine is limited. Alpine really broke their line in two by offering these "digital media" (specifically the iDA models) only head units for iPods and HDDs but without CDs and their normal line of head units (Most have Full-Speed iPod but none of the normal ones have digital iPod input). Strange to me, really. You can't browse by genre, that annoys me. It's not bad, but it's not great. Also, you only get the line-out from the iPod so you're using the iPod DAC. On the DXZ785USB, the input is digital and thus you're using the nice 24-bit DAC in the HU.
The Clarion is one of only a small few head units that satisfy my needs right now and I like it the best overall.

My eclipse ipod interface module works ok and I have not played with it too much but I have noticed that if you want to listen to a playlist that the playlist has to be set onto your ipod before you hook it up. I havent played to much but it works

It is a tough choice, I am not really concerned with being able to play CD's as all of my CD's are on my iPod. I guess it will come down to where I can get the best deal. The only thing that jumps out at me on the Alpine (iDA) is the display, looks kind of cool. Not too sure about the rest of it, decisions.... decisions...

Let us know what you think of the interface on that unit when it arrives.paulmichelsen wrote:Well I just sold a bunch of crap on ebay and put that money into a iDA-X100
next I plan on buying a 120gig iPod to dump all of my music on, if anyone has an old dock hit me up. I want to fiberglass a dock into my center console to hold the iPod.

ive had that head unit for about the past 6 months and absolutely love it. very clean looking head unit, the blue lights look sick at night, and the interface is easy to use and fast. you wont be dissapointed, ive installed a few indash screens for friends that have an ipod interface and i would take this hu over those anyday.
