QX manufacturing...

Post by bretti_kivi »

Well, it looks like the original 90.2 was only a HP / LP available up to 800Hz. I've just found this out the hard way; I wanted to be able to run without an XO and I simply can't do that with this kit <sigh>.

I will post up some guts pics shortly. From what I can see, the QX 100.2 and 180.2 are virtually identical; the 90.2 has a couple of daughterboards to make up for the lack of PCB real estate.

I will try and measure the 100.2 vs 180.2 in terms of rail voltage - if someone has a schematic that would help enormously - I suspect strongly that the difference between the two is purely there and nowhere else.

I'm actually really annoyed about the 90.2 thing. The box also implies it was going to be a 150.4 ("35W x 4 stereo, 150W mono") whereas it's a 90.2 I'll post pics in a minute.

So, anyone want to explain why and if I can mod the 90.2 to give me a real 4.5k XO?

QX90.2 was price point (aka cheap amp) targeted at Canada and Europe markets. Notice is also doesn't have a blue LED.

Black QX amps are very reliable, not bad little performers for they money.

You can mod the amp to change the freq range, most likely a few resistors. But couldn't tell ya which ones.

CHEAP AMP? You mean the chrome looking (like super low qulity looking) QX when they first came out with that series? Those are the ones I remember, and I was super pissed when PG shuffled that crap out the door. Those were the Canada Europe marketed ones ur talkn bout?

The ones I have (the older black ones) do still have a blue LED. It appears that they really are mostly in canada and europe; they seem to have been running from 2000 - 200x or so - then they got replaced by the polished finish versions, which appear to be very similar.

these are Korean made.

READ THE POST! It says BLACK QX amps!

Both chrome and black were targeted to europe and canada. Overall, very sucessful in terms of business.

Chrome amps sold well, but the four channel could be a little buggy.

Now I also finally understand the difference between a 300.4 and a 150.4. The 300.4 has a high-level input, the 150.4 doesn't. Power outputs are slightly higher for the 300.4 - 60x4 as opposed to 50x4 - but the bridging and 2 ohm ratings are the same. Implication? the 150.4 is slightly under-rated.

And to clear things up:

- QX was introduced in 1997 as the aluminium / chrome version and was updated in 2000 to the black version.
- by 2003, the line had been killed, to be replaced by the octanes. i appear to have a very late 300.1; it can't have been much later that the line was dropped.

Yep, 300.1 was one of the last amps introduced into QX line.

Honestly, for a 300 watt amp its VERY well built. Plenty of output devices, caps and power supply. PCB speaks for itself.
