it's a common problem, i think there's a firmware upgrade pg can do or it might even be possible yourself.

Ah man, not again! Yep, the DEQ had a penchant for eating right tweeters for some reason. Hopefully PG will make things right for you. :x

What are the chances of them sending me a replacement tweeter?

I'm probably gonna have to buy a replacement out my own pocket arn't i?

I'm worried that it may have damaged something else?, how would i know this?.

Is it a case of if everything works and sounds sort of the same then its ok?

I wouldn't give your hopes up. Its Rodin Audio...not sure how they are now compared to PG days. Also you are overseas. So not sure that they would support that far away....let alone that far out of production unit.

I would say good luck....and hope they do...but dont expect it.

I'm going to be gutted if i have to pay to replace the components myself as you can't get them in the UK and by the time you've waited 2 weeks for them to be delivered from the USA and paid the import fee they suddenly go from $50 as advertised on ebay.com to $200 by the time they arrive at your door.

I cant keep paying that on the offchance it 'might' not do it again.

Does anyone have any experience with theres doing this, is it only whilst sending changes to the unit?

Is anyone 100% SURE its a just a firmware update?, does anyone know what caused it.

would the X_over not prevent this from happening , the only way i can see a pop or anything frying a tweeter is they were runn without any sort of protection, I used my DEQ many times, sent changes many times , picked up loads of noises with it , but as far as I know my right and left tweeter are still playing fine. But then I have passives in line .

nope didnt stop it, as soon as i clicked 'transmit both channels' you could hear a crackling sound in both channels that swept from left to right, it stayed in the right crackling away for about 2 seconds and something went pop. the crackling then disappeared.

I could understand if there was ALOT of volume going through when the change was made and the filter applied, but the volume was totally off.

I am very worried that it may have damaged something else as this spike or whatever it was has obviously gone out the RCA ports, but I dont know how to check the other bits of kit.

If it has i'm totally stuffed as i cant afford to fix it, i broke the bank buying the equipment in the first place.

I'm even more angry about the fact that i bought everything brand new, took my time and installed it correctly, and the last and most expensive piece that i installed has ruined it, and theres nothing i can do about it.

I'm seriously considering taking it out and putting my EQ230 in there.

If anyone can help me understand why it happens i can maybe prevent it next time.

I cant risk it damaging my other equipment.

I dont know if i could even sell it as its probably going to damage some other poor guys system. Unless anyone knows why the TiDEQ's do this?

Happened to me to when switching between presets.

After discussions with PG and the Australian distributor at the time mine was replaced with an EQ30 and a credit for the difference in price.

They also replaced the tweeter at no cost.

PG did ofer to fix the DEQ with the firmware upgrade however i chose the other option.

This was more than 3.5 years ago.

So, in a nutshell, its fine aslong as you don't try to change settings on it, and you dont change the presets.

Man, this things a bargain.

I was under the impression and have been for years that this TiDEQ was something really quite special.

Now, after having one for only a week, and hearing all these stories it sounds like its a $1200 unfinished project with bugs, and that it will more than likely damage some part of the system you install it in. And if it does damage it, it is that old that the manufacturer will likely not help and you have to pickup the cost for whatever the unit destroys. The problem may be fixed in the versions after mine, great, except nobody even the manufacturer has the chips to upgrade it.

I'm not having this. I've put too much work into this system to have it damaged. I'm taking it out.

Wakeup/Marko,

you have TiDEQ's correct?

If yours is in use, I would assume it is the newer REV chip. You have any idea how to copy and flash ROM chips?

I think this would help....

Is there a device or component i can put 'in line' somewhere to stop this?

Does anyone know what it is, is it a burst of voltage that gets sent down the RCA's?

Could it potentially go back up the RCA to my head unit and damage that?

You could always put a switch in-line with the remote going to the amps. Anytime you need to make changes on the eq, you could turn off the amps and prevent any weirdness from reaching the speakers. A total 'band-aid' but it would do the job.

There was an inside joke at PG that RDDP on their amps stood for Really Didn't Do that Product. haha I always said they should've called that eq the SRDDP... Shouldnt've Really Done Did that Product! haha I always felt they should've focused on finishing the X-Station instead of that headache.

The RDDP was retarded, considering the RMD does the same job on two wires, minus the status lights that nobody used anyways.

Unfortunately my Ti500.4 only has an RDDP port... so now I have to make an adaptor cable for my RMD.

^ I thought the status LED's were pretty cool, added a little color to my dash. I have found though that my SDT displays usually show a half of a volt lower than the RMD's (which I tested with a DMM and the RMD is spot on). And yes, I have adjusted them via the knob in the back and they're still a half of a volt low. (Sorry to thread jack.)

I've heard nothing from PG support, and have had to bite the bullet and buy a whole new componenet set and have it shipped to the uk.

I'm putting my eq230 in so have removed the TiDEQ.

Thanks for the help guys.

If anyone wants to buy a 2 week old TiDEQ that has a disliking for tweeters then let me know.
