Hieroglyphics rules :D

A Tribe Called Quest is of similar era, similar sound. J5, Roots and Jedi Mind Tricks are also good.

Well, since I'm 28(29 in Feb) I guess I did grow up witit. I got into music around 91-92 with some LL, Beastie's, Mix-a-lot, Cypress Hill, Vanilla Ice, MC Hammer and more I could name. There's soooooooo much underground hip hop these days that it's impossible to keep up.

In my eyes, rap peaked around 97, and the last good rap album was Dre's 2001. I hope he releases Detox soon, before these pussies take over. Fuck new rap... bunch of mongoloids HURRin and HAWWin about spending money to a flat bassline. Lil Wayne and Soulja Boy can suck a dick. Same goes for 50 "eat a bowl of cereal while you rap" Cent and The "whiny Dre-suck-up" Game.

so true, good hiphop is still there, but hard to sift throw all the crap to find a diamond

lupe fisco is new talent, and kanye wet college dropout album is still awesome. (new shit...not so much)

the roots released Phrenology in 2002...so as long as were talking about great WHOLE ALBUMS...that one is hard to top

There is still good Hip-HOp being put out nowadays. Listen to Common, Mos Def, Wu-Tang.

Kanye jumped on the vocoder bandwagon. Not that I didn't think his shit was bunk before that, but now he's in the same class as other vocoder douche-bags, including but not limited to Akon.

Oh, and melodyne is almost singlehandedly sucking all the life out music these days. Guess what? Those little pitch imperfections are what make singers unique, interesting and REAL. When you pave over that shit with melodyne, you might as well have a fucking machine do everything instead and fire the overpaid singers, I mean actors.

I don't think we were saying that all hip hop put out today is wack. WU, Mos Def and Common are mostly underground anyhow.

Not to mention the shame of actually hearing them "perform" live, without the computer magic.

Auto-tuning software is technically quite amazing, but it sucks all the life out of music for me...

Are you talking about 213? IIRC they technically existed before Westside Connection, but I'm no expert... I'm more of a death metal guy :)

And it's not like Ice Cube hasn't sold out either

My video is of Psycho Realm from 1993, before B-Real joined them. I'm also not a fan of later Cypress albums (though IV is probably one of my favorite to listen to while I smoke a big fatty), but Psycho Realm continues to be one of my favorites. Not the same without Big Duke though :(
