I'm suprised that no-one has mentioned this yet, but if you flicked the EQ230 and replaced it with an EQ215X it would suit your purpose much better.

1. It'll give you your active Lowpass crossover for Sub & Highpass for Quarts.

2. You'll gain the ability to use an LPL for your sub level (will allow you to crank the sub a bit when the roofs down so all your bottom end does'nt float away.

3. Sure, you'll lose some 'tuning' ability going from the 230 to the 215X, but from the sounds of it you want to build a nice daily driver system and are not looking to compete any time soon?? If this is the case then the 215X will still give you more than enough scope to get things sounding nice.

P.S. Good to see another Aussie on the Phorum. Where abouts are you??

Very good call Andy. Tuning a 30 band EQ without an RTA is practically impossible anyways :)

Thanks for that advice Andy, it makes good sense. I'm in Adelaide and I just wish making equipment changes were so freakin' easy! Do you know how often old school PG stuff turns up on ebay down here?!

(The GOOD thing is when it does, it can often be had for a good price because most people think Kenwood and Pioneer make the good shit )

I often buy from the U.S., but the exchange rate is down at US$0.65 at the moment! PLUS you then gotta pay for shipping, which feels like someone's just torn you a new one!

But I will keep my eyes open for an EQ215X, it's a great idea ... and I might just get lucky.

Yeah, I feel your pain on the exchange rate

Keep your eye's open on US Ebay though as I've seen some 215X's go for crazy cheap money and even when you factor in the crappy exchange rate and shipping it's still not too bad.

What colour and silkscreen pattern is your 230?? I (may) know where there's a 215X sitting doing nothing (other than mine)

Sorry Andy, wasn't paying proper attention before ... only now just sink in you're in Australia as well! Where are you?

My stuff's all white with the blue and gold silk screen. (As per the M series amps.)

Shit that's clean, too!

I'm a state of flux now. I'm negotiating the purchase of another M50, which would mean I could go fully active. Need to see how this deal pans out before I buy another EQ.

if you do that your going to need a 3way xover and the 215x wont work for you. un less you use the passive xover just on your tweeters

OK, secured the deal on the M50. Yes the EQ215x is out now, but I have the EQ230 already, so looks like I'm in the market for a 3 way crossover instead.

(I have to give it a little time though, as the pain from the cost of shipping the M50 will be with me for quite some time.)

The guy would only use FedEx, which is costing £42 from the UK to Australia. (Pretty sure you don't pay any customs/import duties on goods to the value of AU$1000. I've never been hit with any before anyways.)

Ordinarily I would probably would not have committed to it, but I just sold two Kicker Impulse amps on ebay for AU$350!!! Was not expecting anything like that, so I figured I'd put my recent windfall to good use before my wife even sees it! :D
