Audi A6...what do you guys think?
I've had my eye on an '01-03 A6 2.7T 6-speed for quite some time now. I've heard of many expensive nightmare-ish problems with the automatic, but haven't heard nearly the reservations with the manual transmission.
Any of you Dub/Audi guys have any input for me?

Nice nice car. My boss is selling his '01 with a little over 60k on it for around $16k. Its a 6-speed. He has a chip in it..not sure which one. Its in nice shape...had some body work done on it and the front hub/axle/a-arms and everything else in there replaced due to an accident, but it seems to be 100%. Its dark grey with charcoal leather I think. Nice car.

Well, my rents had an '00. Fast as hell, but you had better not be far from a dealer. That thing was a piece of crap!! My rents had bought many Audi's and VW's before then and were happy with them, but swore them off after that one. It was really, really fast though.
I have thought about an S4, but just can't bring myself to do it after seeing the problems my parents had with their Audi. Hope that helps out some!

I looked hard at them last summer, the 6 speed would be the better way to go, but the auto is a tip-tronic setup so you get the best of both worlds. My bottom line came down to being able to afford the maintence on one, my Jetta aint cheap and with most used rockets like that they are heading into the prime range for larger bill items, like timing belts and the like. That being said, they are very sweet, but only if you get the Quattro. I was between that and a same years 325xi.
I ended up using the downpayment money on getting the Jetta chipped and a timing belt kit done.

I haven't found the exact A6 that i would buy yet. just trying to get a feel for common problems and upkeep, etc. Quattro is one of the main selling points on Audi for me so I wouldn't buy one without it. I prefer black in color if anyone knows of one of these for sale in their local area.
I hadn't heard about the problems with the factory turbos, but had been considering the dual K04 turbo upgrade as part of tuning the 2.7T. But hell, just a chip in these is very effective in boosting performance. Anyone have a preference for Giac or Revo?
I've also considered the A4 Avant for something a little less sporty and expensive. 1.8T or 3.0 (considering tuning)? Any thing I should be aware of as a prospective buyer?
Thanks guys, Jed

on the a4's....Do Not get the v6 if you are any kind of enthusisast. it is silky smooth, but not quick, and you can tune the 1.8 to be quicker for less then $1000
in the a4's...if it doesnt have a turbo on it...skip it

Think? Haven't had that course yet.
Audi's, unless you get the high end model, are just overpriced Volkswagens.
Then once you get your high end Audi, you can't do no work on it because the systems need high end analyzers to diagnose most failures that aern't obvious. So since you can't do no work on your high end Audi, you need the dealer to charge you about $100 per hour to tell you you need the high end part at the high end price to fix your high end driveway Queen. And Pep Boys or Auto Zone don't carry those parts except through special order that will cost a premium and requires a non-refundable stocking charge of 15% and takes 6-8 weeks to deliver from Germany.
So, support your home economy, save a ton of coin and buy a ride built in North America. Go test drive a Hemi Magnum or 300C. You'll be presently surprised.

a6 vs 300m.....in the great words of samul L jackson...."IT AINT THE SAME BALL PARK....IT AINT EVEN THE SAME MUTHAFUCKIN SPORT"
an a6 bi-turbo is a high end audi.
plus anyway you slice it, 300m AWD can't hang with Quattro

Possibly. However......Bfowler wrote:plus anyway you slice it, 300m AWD can't hang with Quattro
a. Qty 2 300C can be had for the price of Qty 1 A6 Twin Turbo Quattro.
b. A 300C keeps the boys in the plant pay chequed.
c. An A6 Audi fits in the trunk of a 300C, even when stuffed with a full array of PG gear.

A: hmmm, we just aren't gonna see eye to eye on that one. i just cant stand the squishy feeling (although luxurious) feeling in the 300m. it just feels to detached from the road for me. (to clarify, i cant "feel" the road, and i don't feel like i am in control of it in "spirited driving")HoseHead wrote:Possibly. B: very true, and i feel bad for them....but after a few American cars...they left sour taste in my mouth. also....BMW has a plant in South Carolina where they construct the Z and X series

C: giant cars just aren't my thing. even the a6 is a behemoth compared to my current car
meh - to each his own

Concurred. Audi are nice cars. I spent many Autobahn hours in these rockets. Just under 300 Km/hr was all we could get out of a 200 (5000S in North America) They're just too expensive to purchase and maintain on this side of the pond.
I'm talking a 300C, not the older 300M. 300CM, Charger and Magnum are built on the same platform. Go try any Hemi edition of these units. If your lucky, your chosen dealer may even have an SRT version. These sport a 6.1 Hemi @ 425 HP vice the standard 5.7 Hemi @ 340HP. You'll be surprised and you'll also see the Daimler influence in styling and handling. The SRT versions also have a multitude of handling enhancements - huge brakes, bigger shock absorbers, close ratio steering, "triptronic" 5spd automatics etc.....

Jed,
Look at the allroad instead of the A6, same car but in wagon format with push button on/off road adjustment. More room, more rigid chassis, about the same curb weight, plus you don't have to mod the suspension to get the feel you want, just rechip it.
Allroads come with a 6 speed and 2.7T as well.

I think we've established that "Ka Ka" and "Tukki Tukki" don't work.
