Help needed; 63 volts railcaps MS
Refurbishing MS amps, means I work on original MS amps as well, having 63 volts / 6800Uf / 105 degrees railcapacitors, measuring 35x35 mm.
Nowhere to be found here anymore; can someone help me out in getting 12 pieces ? [or more depending on price]
Thanks,
Nico

i'd be interested to know where they can be sourced too, i have an m100 that needs new rail caps and i think they are almost the same as ms series...

... that format will be an issue, but
ELEKTROLYYTTIKOND. 680µF 63V 16x26mm
are less than €2 each here for 85 degree ones. Let me take a look...

I found 35mmx40mm in 6800uFd 63wv, 105° C. I also found oodles of 8200uFd, 63Wv or higher, 35x35, but only 85°C temp.
Mouser lists the 8200uFd ones, digikey has the 35x40 6800 caps. I believe either will ship internationally, but if you have trouble, I can throw some in on my next order and forward them to you if any of these will work.
Later,
Jason

Well, I found this Cornell Dubilier part# 381LQ822M063A032. It fits all of your criteria, except it is 8200uFd. The only issue is, I cannot find one online distributor that stocks it. Mouser say's special order, and minimum order of 125 of them at $4.08 each. You may try contacting the manufacturer though, they may be willing to provide a few samples.
Like I mentioned before, I found several in the 85° rating that meet your size specs. I also found several that fit the needs but are 50Vdc Working Voltage, 63Vdc surge. How certain are you on the specs? Specifically the temperature rating, as there seems to be a plethora in the 85° C range...

Jason

Haha Marko; the outside is less important than the inside!
Ofcourse I'm a freal when it comes to detail, but at some point I have to make sacrifices about that ; getting the original parts is virtually impossible, and if found at all, prob. old stock.
About the other caps; 105 degree is the better choice for the original amps like the MS2250; they tend to get REAL HOT, causing 85 degree caps to get "older" fast and make them less reliable.
All other MS amps with the 50, and 40 volt railcaps can easily be serviced using 85 degree caps, like used in all TA series.
I will ask Cecil if he has some laying around, or if he knows another solution. If so, I'll let you know.
Don't stop looking for them though!
THANKS.

nico, goto www.newark.com try this part number for a 6800Uf @63v snap in cap., and its diameter is 35mm by 30mm length( ii know 5mm shorter),97M5373- and they are under 4bucks a piece ,and in stock, hope this helps- its cornell dublier-if not good luck-Christian,
as she walked out the door she expressed, 'enjoy your amp addiction'
Those are 85° caps. They seem to be fairly plentiful. 105° are not.thedeal7235 wrote:nico, goto www.newark.com try this part number for a 6800Uf @63v snap in cap., and its diameter is 35mm by 30mm length( ii know 5mm shorter),97M5373- and they are under 4bucks a piece ,and in stock, hope this helps- its cornell dublier-if not good luck-Christian,
Nico, I agree that 105° are the best choice for replacement, but I was just wondering whether that was the factory spec. I am still not clear on if it is, or not, based on your reply. If the factory ones were 85°, then that could explain the difficulty in finding the replacements.
Also, what is the rail voltage on that amp? It may be that a 50V WV and 63V surge will work. I would hate to have to do it that way, but you may not have a lot of options.
Can you go with any larger diameter? That might free up some wiggle room to find something as well.

Jason

Keep an eye on those JAMIs. I've heard a lot of bad things about them leaking and being out of tolerance. Creative Labs uses them on the X-Fi, and a lot of the audiophile types who use them swap out the caps and opamp. It's from those people that I've heard the bad things about JAMI.nico boom wrote:FOUND.
I found them at a local shop who ordered them from JAMICON.
6800uF, 63 VOLTS, 35X35 mm 85 degrees, identical like the ones used by PG in all MS1K's
I'm happy! Now I can finish Didier's original MS2250.
