Static from tweeters

After hooking up my speakers and tweeters there is a constant static noise coming from the tweeters.. even when the HU is on 0. Im pretty sure this isnt supposed to happen and when I play my music pretty loud it sounds terrible. Is there a way to fix this? Did I mess up in the wiring?

The wiring may be pinched/exposed somewhere. Follow it to see if it's been compromised somewhere.

Is it a 'static' hiss, or an engine whine that changes in pitch with engine RPM??

its a static hiss.. would it be the wiring between the crosovers and the tweeters that would be pinched? because its happening on both sides but not as bad on the right.

It's unlikely you would have the same wiring problems on Both sides. Sounds more like an amp issue or a rca or even head unit. I would try a know good speaker and temporarily hook it up AT the amp. Try both channels. If the noise is there with the temp speaker, then you know the problem is before the speaker or wiring to the speakers. Then it's a process of elimination to find the source of the noise.

What kind of RCAs have you got? If it's the cheap shitty speaker wire ones that come in many wiring kits, you will need to get a shielded "twisted pair" RCA.

Yeah I was using the one in the wiring kit I got. Should I go out and buy a new one? Also im pretty sure i need to change the ground. That would affect it right?

That depends on your wiring kit...

Your ground needs to be a solid spot on the body (not a welded piece of sheetmetal, or worse, something like your trunk), and it needs to be sanded right down to bare metal.

I think all of Knuconcepts RCAs are shielded twisted pair, so it should be fine.

If its just a hiss as you say, I'm with Greg (gkitching) in that its more than likely an amp problem. I've seen similar problems with dry solder joints on the RCA inputs and the like. Try wriggling the rca inputs on the amp while somone has their ear near the tweeter and see if the problem cuts in and out.

As mentioned. It's going to be a process of elimination to find the problem but once its fixed you'll be all the more happy that you've been able to DIY.

I used to have the same issue with my Ti500.4, turned out it was the potentiometer that was going bad. That's why I was curious as to what amp you were running. The Ryval should be fine.

I just got all of this stuff for Christmas so hopefully nothing is wrong with any of it...
