2 subs - 2 amps or 1 big amp?

Post by 4Nine »

Thinking about getting another se12 and was wondering if
I should run 2 x600.1 one for each sub or one x1200.1 for both subs?
Pro,Cons?

I have one x600.1.

IMO, I would just get another X600.1. You would add an extra 200+ watts per sub versus the X1200.1. You already have one and either way you're going to have to buy one more amp.

I agree, get yerself another 600.1. I'm assuming yer talking about an RE Audio SE12 right? Either way, the 600.1's are under-rated and will provide more power to the woofer.

You'll be happy I'm sure. 8)

Yes they are RE SE's.

How would I hook up both sub amps to a re-q5?
Y cable for each amp?

Yes or you can daisy chain from one amps output to the other's input.

I would run one X600.1 to both subs... you're talking a 3dB difference by adding a second amp. Don't forget to account for the added power draw, cost of wiring, etc. of installing a second one either.

From what I've read, the RE's are kinda power hungry. If it were my system, I'd run the 2 but thats just me. I factor in the overall look of the system also. A badass system should look badass!!!!

If I do decide to go with 2 amps would a HO Alt be needed?
Or a new battery first?
Would a cap w/new battery be an option or because of the cost
of the two just go with the ho alt?

Current setup - big 3,stock alt 105a,x200.4,x600.1

what is the VC config of your sub(s)?

i would run which ever amp setup will lead to a final load of 4ohms on your amp(s)

xenons DO put out more power at 4ohms, and it might be placebo, but i swear they sound nicer too

Yeah but adding 3db is twice as loud

Linearly, yes... but our hearing is logarithmic, so you certainly won't hear it that way. 3dB is pretty much the minimum volume that people can tell something is "louder", but not by much.

Yeah...the Xenon 600.1 puts out way more power than rated. I currently have two Xenon 10" subs running off mine and they hit HARD! I also hooked up two Cerwin Vega V-Max 10" subs (500 rms each) in a ported box and they hammered the hell outta my car. I guess what I'm saying is...this single amp will easily push the hell out of 1000 watts worth of subs with no problem!!! However, a lot has to do with the subs you're using and the enclosure you put them in too. My Xenons in a sealed enclosure are smooth and very clean, the Cerwin Vegas in a ported box hammered like a thunder storm inside the car...and the amp wasn't even breathing hard (barely warm to the touch).

Try running both off the X600.1 and see what you think. If you don't like it or think you want more...then buy another and run a sub off each.
