to shallow sub.. or not to shallow sub?
to shallow sub.. or not to shallow sub?
that is the question! hava '02 avalanche. trying to decide whether to run just a good set of 6.5" comps in the doors with an amp and maybe 15band eq. or go ahead and try to fit a shallow 8 under one of the rear seats. i want to be able to lay the midgate down and still have everything functioning. the sad thing is i have a nice used boston g1 8 but im only workin' with 4" of height and that thing itself is 4.25 tall. any recommendations.. or screw the 8 n jus roll w/ some comps? as always, comments/suggestions appreciated! thanks.
Have no fear, only uncertainty!

I love my sws 8 earthquake seat sub for my bmw
they were cheap don't need a ton of power and they can move like 1.5 inch both ways very happy

I gotta admit, Pioneer's shallow sub is fuking amazing! Very well built and sound very good. I've used these for regular situations that didn't require a shallow sub just because they were better then compared price subs at the time.

Or here is a vehicle specific box that would work.

Heard both the Pioneer and the Clarion shallow mounts as well as JL's. I don't like JL that much, but their latest stuff has impressed me. Supposedly they've got a 10" and 12" coming out.
JL would be my first choice, Clarion 2nd and Pioneer 3rd.

You may want to contact that Probox company I linked above. I seem to remember they had something at one time. They may still have some around. Definitely the best built boxes I know of out there!
SM . what situation did you hear the Pioneers in? And what series were they? They make 3 different types now. I haven't heard the newest ones. But those I linked to have been tremendous in every situation I've used them for. One in particular was a 4 - 12" box across the back of a reg cab pick -up in a 2.5 cu ft box. With 2 - 1000w Arc amps doing 150db+ and sounded super tight and very controlled. This was the job that sold me on those subs.
The Clarions' are of very questionable quality. My 1st order of them went out and came back within weeks, if not days. I would be hesitant to recommend them to anyone. Maybe they fixed the problem since but I doubt it. Clarion's idea of a fix is when they come out with something different. haha.
Haven't had an opportunity to hear the JL's. Would like to tho.

Revered in SQ circles for many years the Aliante series has come to represent some of the finest subwoofers in the world, for accurate quality.
Designed around an unusually shallow chassis (95mm deep) featuring an unconventional fibreglass honeycomb cone, the Aliante will produce awesomely accurate low frequencies, at substantial outputs.
Aliante also features a charcoal grey die cast aluminium chassis with gold plated binding posts. Cutting edge technologies, including Ferro fluid cooling for the voice cool to aid heat dissipation and load capacity, and SYMADIS magnetic system, combine to form a loudspeaker of true audiophile quality, capable of handling the powers required also for high output. Extremely deep frequency response ensures accurate reproduction even down to the lowest frequencies.
A subwoofer for those that appreciate modern technology, and above all accuracy in bass reproduction.
* 6.75" voice Coil
* Aluminium reinforced honeycomb membrane
* Frequency: 15-300 Hz
* Sensitivity: 89.3dB
* Impedance: 4 Ohms
for a 15 that need 1.75 I can make a box on the side of my car and keep all the trunk. plus me seat subs souund very good even for 8" sws earthquake.. I was told they made these sub for the oem replacement fix 100% easy to install and sound great
can't wait for the sub so I will have some low low low end!!!
But I think what was ask is does he keep the 8" he has and install them but how he is .25" to tall

I can wait so maybe great reviews and I think the set up of 8 " and a 15" would sound great
In the next year or 2 I have to see if I will change the deck and mid/tweeter
but I have to find a deck that will let me use my stearign wheel controls
and sell my nak. mbx/changer set up
