RSDc question, suggestions
Ok, so I think that this spring I'm going to upgrade to the RSDc 12" subs. I love my RSD's, but want something a little better. My question is this, I will be powering them/it with an x1200.1 in a sealed box. Should I get two of them, or just one? I have 2 RSD's, but I'm going to be rebuilding the box anyway. Which will sound better. Will there be a noticible difference in volume between one or two?
Like I say, looking for suggestions or ideas. Let me know what you think

I'm just doing the same upgrade right now.
I haven't put in my RSdC subs yet but they'll be running on the exact same power as my RSd subs were, which most people do not see as enough. I love it. Hell, I have to turn my sub gain waaaaay down to reach a "flat" response on the low stuff. The M100 can kick so much harder than you need for technical SQ listening. That's a good thing though, because I love overpowering bass as well

2 ohm stereo on an M100 is approximately 230W according to PG and I'm fairly sure I've never driven it to that level before. I'll have to gain set the amp again soon.
Tom also has a single RSdC12 on about... 200W? Maybe less?
If you love super bass, throw clean power at them. If you like SQ, you don't have to kill them to make them sound good.

Well, I'm not going to get another amp, and am really trying to do this as cheap as possible. That's why I was wondering about just doing one of them instead of two. I just didn't know if it would sound better with one on the 1200 watts or 2 at 600 apiece. Or if it really makes very little difference.AVICJR wrote:I'll have the same exact setup. (2) 12" RSDC subs on a X1200.1. If your not satisfied you could always pick up another X1200.1 and run one per sub.

Re: sub
That's something else I was going to ask. Have we ever really figured out the optimum box size for these? I wanna go sealed as I am trying to save space a little.kg1961 wrote:just one make iot the right box you will be very very happy!!!!

i had 2 rsd 1200.1 amps, and for a while i ran them(2rsdc10sdual 2ohm) to them seperatly(650-780watts each@4ohm) , then i decided to put the one rsd 1200.1 to both of them to get the 1200 watts b/c they can handle it, i didnt notice much difference, actually sounds a little better , for me, to have the 2 rsdc 10s running off of one 1200.1 amp, not sure if this helps, cuz ur asking about running 1 sub, not two amps-good luck(
as she walked out the door she expressed, 'enjoy your amp addiction'
Doubling your power, on paper, will get you 3db. That is just enough to be able to tell the difference. Quality-wise, do you really think you will be critically listening at maximum output? If so, then maybe two 1200.1s would sound a little better, as they'd be more dynamic. But in all honesty, at that output, I doubt you're gonna be able to notice. You'll be too busy trying to keep your lungs from collapsing.

To be honest my single RSD comp 12 seems just as loud as the pair of regular RSDs on the same power. Now I didn't do an A/B test, but in the 10 minutes between switching subs I couldn't tell a difference in volume.
You would probably love a single RSDC on that power. Two won't hurt a bit either
And having tried both a 10 and a 12, I think you should go with a 12. The 10 sounds perfect, but the 12 just has more balls.

I personally thought my system sounded better when I had a single RSD on my Ti1000.2, then it does now with two of them on an x1200.1. Not alot better mind you, and it could have been the box design also as I had to change it some when I built for two of them. I thought the sub sounded cleaner on more power though. That's why I was thinking about a single RSDc when I do it this time.
How big of a box do you have yours in Tom?

1.25 cuft has been my favorite so far. I've tried 1 and 2 cuft boxes as well.
If you still have your old single RSD box, then use that and add pieces of 2x4 or styrofoam to take up volume until you find your personal sweet spot
The difference you experienced may have been class A/B versus D as well. I prefer A/B on subwoofers since it produces harmonics above 300Hz, which I have always noticed make the bassline blend better.

I wondered if maybe that was some of the difference also. Kinda wish I hadn't sold my Ti amps. I like the Xenons, but I think the Ti's did sound a little better on some things. Oh well coulda, shoulda, woulda...stipud wrote: The difference you experienced may have been class A/B versus D as well.
