M50 can do 1 ohm stereo but certainly not 1 ohm bridged.
4 ohm wiring and bridged over the two terminals will be the best setup here.
As for replacing the amp, the rule of thumb is you only gain 3 decibels every time you double power.... so going from 300 to 600 watts is 3dB.
I would personally be happy with that amp. I am running 150 watts to my sub right now and it's good... but then again I'm not as big of a basshead as most (got that out of the way when I was 18 hehe)

hear yeah; but dont u think he should keep the amp, even if he wants more power?it truly is a collectors item imho-
as she walked out the door she expressed, 'enjoy your amp addiction'
I'm going to keep it and run the sub off it. I'll look out for an M100, then I can use that and run some components off the M50. Just wanted to check with everyone I wasn't likely to damage anything buy running it as it is.
By the way, since the amp is very old, you might want to look into replacing the powersupply input capacitors. Eventually they end up leaking all of their magic goo over the circuit board, which causes them to short out and cause catastrophic amp failures.
One other thing that I'd consider doing is checking the enclosure size you are using and compare it to Kickers recomendations. Running the sub in a small sealed box could be limiting its ability to play loud and low with the amount of power you are giving it.
If you have the room in your car you may want to upsize the box to one of Kicker's recommendations, or even better (imo)...... go ported with one of the boxes they recommend and with a bit of cabin gain factored in you should be VERY happy with the music you listen to.
