okay... just picked up the rte 66 off kevin (drivingdevil) and got it for a local gurl here in town... she wants to get a headunit for her rig too and is deciding on 1 of 2.
The subtle difference between the two are that one (1) has 4 rca's out (front and switchable rear/subwoofer) and #2 has 6 preamp out's... F/R/sub's)...
with the rte 66, and having front speakers, rear door speakers, and subs (soon to be) which head unit shuold she go for, and whats the best way to confirgure the wiring????
I just can wrap my head around the fact that the 66 is a 6 channel amp with only 4 inputs... I did see the Rte 66 Mod seen here: http://download.phoenixphorum.com/Manua ... 66_Sub.pdf
Should this be a possibility for her needs or not?? I am trying to figure out the best most efficient, Best sounding, way to go about this for her and make an intelligent suggestion ... i.e. the headunit with 6 outs and y-adapter the left's and rights to the M44 Left/right inputs and then the sub duties from the M25 or the alternative with sub duties and fronts off the 44 and the rear fill off the 25??
what say you guys?

As you said, the Route 66 only has two sets of inputs so it would make sense to me to get the HU with two sets of outputs unless there was the possibility of changing the setup at some point.
The front inputs go to the 'front' AND the 'subwoofer' channels according to the block diagram in the Route 66 manual. The rear inputs go the 'rear' channels. The one main disadvantage I can see from this configuration is that you pretty much have to use the internal LP xover in the Route 66, you can't use an external LP of any kind. If that xover doesn't have the points she wants, she'll have to think of something else (ie, a different amp for subs). Someone correct me if I've missed something obvious here.
I would only recommend the mod if she wants to bridge the M44 to the fronts and use the M25 for subs, as stated in the document.

i was kinda thinking that (and maybe miss understood the mod).. but thinking that the 25 for sub dutiies and the 44 bridging the right & left channels from HU. But doing so by taking the HU (w/ 6 outputs) and summing the right and summing the left with like an y-adapter...
-No good?? that's how i understood the mod.. granted i read through it quickly as i m at work..
but maybe the alternative is- kinda like shaheen stated... use teh HU with the 2 sets of rca's and rear/sub rcas for 25, and the front rca's for 44 and then wire up the 4 drivers out of her doors to the 44 section???
geese - but that's what's fun... trying, listening and trying to imagine.

I think you understand the mod fine, I just don't get why you'd need a Y adapter to "sum" anything off the HU. Just grab a full range output from the HU and use that. Maybe I'm the one missing something?mhyde71 wrote:i was kinda thinking that (and maybe miss understood the mod).. but thinking that the 25 for sub dutiies and the 44 bridging the right & left channels from HU. You bought my old amp that I had Dr. Fosgae fix up ... make sure she takes care of it
When I was using it to run my entire system I ran it kinda backwards.
I went at it with tht view of it being 2 seperate amps and bypassed the internal crossovers and used an external.
I used the M25 section to power componets and bridged the M44 to the subs.
Get the simplest HU you can get. The less things she has to fiddle with the less chance she will have of messing with things messing up tuning and then blaiming it on the system for not sounding good.

Isn't the LP pot on the AMP an analog resistor type tuning device not some switch with various numbers? If so, you'd be able to feed it a full range signal from a set of RCA's and let the LP setting (resistor), which should be infinitly variable within a given range (say 30hz-600hz) plus the xover slope do it's job? If it's like my amps the slope changes when you bridge them. Get's pretty damn sharp slopewise.
I'd trust the AMP's xover moreso than the HU's.
