Kenwood Excelon feed back. Any Good.

Post by 5.9Limited »

Heres the scoop. IM puttin in a system . a friend works at a car and home audio custom shop in my town and said he'd hook me up with my head unit and subs at cost cause he never buys anything with his discount. the only problem is i want an eclipse 7200 mkII ...but he'd have to order and and doesn't dknow how that would work with our deal...they carry mainly kenwoods right now,

anyone use the excelons? they seem to be allright I guess but they only have 2.5v pre outs.???? thats WEAK!!!!!!!!!

let me know what you all think.

2.5v? are you sure? This should help. check out the KDC X493, 792, 991.
The 991 is 5v, time alignment,yadda-yadda-yadda.
Hope this helps.

Mannnnn I love excelon units....

I have a list of them...
X815, X959 (or maybe it was 969...I forget...I'd have to go look at it),
X879, Two 25th Anniversary decks XXV-01D, and my most recently Acquired X991!

Love them all.
Most of them were 5 volt decks.
Except the X815 might not be...and may be something like 4.5 volt....
Anyway all the rest of my experiences with Kenwood have been great. Never had any major issues.

Except till I got my x991. USB....was my issue, and i have since resolved that. I believe the power that the USB port puts out is not enuff for some larger drives. I since resolved this and have no problem with USB drives now.

I believe Brian loves Kenwood decks as well.

I have a x592, and I absolutely love it.. It is the best deck so far.. Granted it does lack in the eq department tremendously, it does its job well. No annoying whinning sounds that I always get from pioneer decks (pico fuse). I no longer use cds, I use the wired usb interface, and I couldnt be happier with it. The deck sounds very nice..

that eclipse IS a damn good deck. but if you are trying to save some $$$, you arent sacrificing much with the kenwood. kind of a law of diminishing returns. how much is 8v vs 5v, and some illumination/screen goodies really worth?

they both have 24bit DAC's, usb inputs, adjustable hp and lp crossovers.

I loved my X969...... Sweet and easy to use and never had any problems.......
Those tender little burgers with them little, itty-bitty grilled onions that just explode in ya mouth like flavor crystals every time you bite into one.. just makes me want to burn this muthafuka down.... Come on, Pookie, let's burn this muthafuka down!!!

well Im torn. Im hearing good stuff about the kenwoods...but the other cool thing about the MKII is that becasue it has not internal amp, it has the 8v pre outs, AND the bluetooth built in, no need for an add on...and the copper chassis is friggin sweet too...but how much diff. does that make?? Im not sure I guess...its a nice feature but I can pick up the newest Kenwood 991 AT COST. decisions decisions. :?

I gotta chance to fiddle with the 991 for a while yesterday and the display is nice, and the menu's are a piece of cake, the dual wheel system seems to work better than a single wheel with all the controls working off one knob...Im really more concerned with SQ more than aestetics though, i could deal with the look of the eclipse, althouh it has NO flow with my dash, where the kenwood would blend a little better i think....

Ya it's a tough choice. For me I'd not do it all over again...I LOVE my kenwood decks!

I played with the Eclipse and it's nice...features are fairly similar. The screen isn't quite as nice as the Kenwoods....I believe the 7100 had a better screen than the 7200.

So I guess what it boils down to is money. So that choice my friend is up to you! :)

these days its all about the $$$. I have a set budget to work with and to be honest, I feel fortunate to even be able to do the system right now anyway. And even more fortunate that my wife's 100% ok with it!! Truth be told, the last killer system I had, was just pulled out of a car I sold a little before we got engaged 6 years ago...so Ive been waiting a while, and though some would say its dumb to spend the $$ on thsi...I sold a valuable item I've had to get the $$, and truth be told, once summer hits I could afford to do it out of pocket, but won't have time so Im taking advantage of my down time to get it done. so...

I think its lookin like I'll be rockin a kenwood, . unless my buddy can get me that eclipse cheaper somehow :)
