In need of Sub advice...

Post by 5.9Limited »

what up all...I'll be quick...I've had intentions of buying a pair of JL 10w6v2's for a while now...a good friend is hooking me up with 'em for near cost but that # is a little higher than I thought...

anyone ever run w3's?? how do they compare??? I can save about 100 bucks a sub by going down to a w3, but I Really really want the w6's but I'd have to sacrifice some other small plans for the system (bass cube etc..) ..... what's your take?????

You answered your own question .......... if you dont do the W6s now you will end up regretting it and replacing the W3s down the road ...... you can always add the bass cube later a lot easier the swapping the subs

Thats my take on it

I'd have to agree...dont go down...to the W3's...It's like saying I want to get an RSDC but settling for an RSD....

Then kicking yourself saying I should have waited to get the RSDC....

honestly I dont have experience with the newer w3's vs the w6's. I do however have first hand experience with the old w3's and w6's and I was pleased with both. The w6 had a more musical response. Less like a speaker and more like music. The w3 seemed more effecient but also had good response. If you are going for a staight sq setup than the w6 is a better choice. The w3 is a good performer and will give you more spl. Do I think you would be unhappy with w3's? NO.That is if the two speaker lines hold up to there predecessors. Either one Im sure will give you what you want and ideally it would be best to audition them but everyone knows you cant hear a real world audition in a sound booth at your local car audio retailer. Most of the time you walk into one and all you can hear is sloppy uncontolled bass because the subs are up so loud and there is no midbass to give you a sense of how the sub reproduces music. If you have good components that have a good midbass response you will be happy with any sub. 20hz to 80hz is such a small part of the equation. Both of those subs have a pretty natural response. I have found them pricey compared to other drivers I have heard lately which is why I have no first hand experience with the v2's. I think you will be very pleased with either choice but honestly if I were you I would get what I wanted so you have no regrets.

well here's where Im at. I've had two sets of the original W6's...and they were amazing. Very articulate, very high SQ and will pound when asked to . now, having no experience with the v2's I've talked to the tech in the audio shop and sampled both...but in a room thats being redone wiht lots o rattles and no definition at all...so he tells me that the w3's will add a lot of depth and a high quality low end , but they won't put out the volume and strength of the w6's. because I won't have the time desire or $$ cash up grade this really is my shot to get the system in, so I'll probably bite the bullet for the w6's...like you ALL said...no regrets.

my how fast things can change..... so, I was talking to my wife this morning and now my plans have changed drastically. we had an unexpected expense pop up in the mail this week  so I have to dip into my system budget a little to make ends meet. to be honest Im bummed, but realize this kinda stuff happens so for the most part Im chill, know taht some where down the line this summer I'll get what I want.

so, for now Im gonna pick up some RSDC 10's rather than JL to save $$. I've heard very good things about them here. so NOW here's my question on those..

Im running a 600ti...is that strong enough to run 2 of those RSDC's ? or should I just get one ???

honestly if you go off of what people have said about the rsdc's being better than the ti's than I think you will be very happy with them. I also personally think you would be happier with 2. Its funny that the w6's are said to have more bottom end because my experience with the old versions were the opposite. Best of luck bro.

One Ti600.2 will be fine with one or two RSdC. I run two 12" RSdC off a single M100 at 2 ohms stereo and while they won't compare to any SPL oriented system, they do pound and I do have to turn them down quite a bit with the LPL to achieve actual balance with the front stage. Hell, Tom and I RTA'ed my truck and the "flat" response ends up being very little sub, which makes sense. How can two 6" drivers compete with two 12" ones?

Another nice thing about the RSdC woofers is their enclosure size requirements. Sealed, they need very little space to perform their best.

Manuals can be found in the Car Audio section of this forum. Specs should be in there.

thanks denim Im happy with it too. I've always loved JL"s so I had my mind set on 'em, but once I let that go it was fine. Im just going to be soooo glad to have quality sound in my ride again.
