i pick the toyota also. the S models in the 2003 and up generation are known for building up sludge in the bottom of the motor, so doing a oil flush when you get it is a good idea, and then staying on top of the oil changes after that

Yeah, it's pretty much an issue with those long 15000 mile factory OCI's that all the manufacturers are trying to get away with now. They are basically cashing in on people's laziness... those who consider oil changes a hassle, so if the car lasts 15000 miles between changes, they are happier. When 5000 miles was the norm, sludge issues like this were few and far between.Bfowler wrote:i pick the toyota also. the S models in the 2003 and up generation are known for building up sludge in the bottom of the motor, so doing a oil flush when you get it is a good idea, and then staying on top of the oil changes after that
To make matters worse, people got used to skipping an oil change every now and then back when it was 5000 miles. Now that OCI's are 15000, many people are running their engines 30000+ miles without changing the oil. My mechanic friend would regularly see engines in new cars completely seized because the oil was never changed, and it either leaked/burned off completely or sheared down to a useless weight. The same people have been driving their car for weeks with the oil light on

Saab had the same issue in the 9-5. After switching to 5000km/3000mile OCI's I have pretty much cleaned all the PO's sludge out.

good points we just gave the guy some money
he has to get the rims put on and one little thing
