Basscube question
Is it true that you can use just a regular phone cord to hook up your bass knob?

Re: Basscube question
kinda... think it has to have 4 wires internally in the cordthisis1sicls1 wrote:Is it true that you can use just a regular phone cord to hook up your bass knob?
I know some work properly and others do not.
jason knows what they're called specifically... but IIRC it has to have just 4 wires in there... versus maybe like 6 or 8 as other might have... something like that anyways... perhaps not so much help for you.. but maybe

dont think it messes it up so your good there... but iirc, when i put in a cord that did not work properly it wouldn't go on, or it wouldn't make any adjustments as i turn knob or something like that... so i dont think you have to worry about ruining the CUBE. just wont work if not right cord...iircthisis1sicls1 wrote:Ya helps a lil bit lol ... I just didnt want to use a phone cord and then mess up my cube...still a little iffy on trying it though is there a possibility that it can mess things up using this method, or is there another option that I can use. Had no luck finding an original cord yet.

Has to be four wires in the cord and it has to be straight through, meaning hold it with the ends facing each other like you would be trying to plug one into the other. The colors of the wires seen through the clear cable ends should match on both connectors. Sometimes they are mirror image of each other and that won't work. It doesn't matter to a phone, but it does to the cube. I've found cables sold that were both types, so I just started making my own for the remotes I sell.

there are 2 cable wires that were used between the headset and the phone and 4 wire that went from the phone to the wall. 2 wire cable will not work.
Depending on how you mount it, you might need to swap the two wires on it to get it to corrospond to how you turn it.

what else can I say I am a grumpy asshole most of the time.
- You use a phone cord with 4 wires (RJ11).
- The two senter wires goes together at the potentiometer`s senter pin.
-The two others goes to the outer pins of the potentiometer.

Okay, the old cord mentioned that go from handset to phone use a totally different connector than the cord which goes wall to phone. Either one can have 4 wires, but the handset cord ends are a bit smaller and different shape, added to that, most of those cords are curly, so you are not likely to make that mistake.
The cord you need which goes from wall to phone can have 2 or 4 wires. Chances are if you got the cord in a bundle with a phone or answering machine, it is only going to have 2 wires, manufactures do it to save money, a single line phone only uses one pair of the wires. Most of the cords you would buy at say radio shack would have all 4 wires to support 2 line phones.
I explained above, but there is nothing special about the wiring, a wiring diagram would not help you. The cable needs to be straight through, some phone cables flip polarity, it doesn't matter to a phone, but it will to the bass cube.
There is a picture in my bass cube remote thread, I'll see if I can dig it up.

If you swap any of the wires on the bass cube remote, it wont reverse anything except the polarity of voltage to the remote (wont work) or it could reverse gain/freq feedback wires, in which case the remote will still probably work, but not at all correctly.ttocs wrote:Depending on how you mount it, you might need to swap the two wires on it to get it to corrospond to how you turn it.

Yeah, it would work with the LPL, but I honestly can't think of a situation where I would want the gain reversed....

This is what happened when I first tried to hookup my cube. I had just a "normal" phone cord that swapped the gain and frequency pots and it was all sorts of messed up. It "worked" but not correctly. After flipping the ends, my cube worked fine!Jacampb2 wrote:it could reverse gain/freq feedback wires, in which case the remote will still probably work, but not at all correctly.

I "adjusted" the pic above just a little to make cable identification easier.
Looking for a straight through or mirrored cable is confusing as hell when people look at cables in different ways.

As pictured here, placed end to end the wire colors line up.
But if you put them side by side, they are mirrored.
That should help eliminate any confusion.
