I just had a Stetsom 7KD amp on my bench the other day. Its a beef cake inside. It appeared to be hand-made by its construction. The owner was trying to run double 00 gauge to both power terminals sets inside the amp. It was huge inside

I do not have the equipment to test the two to full power against one another but it would be a interesting test to say the least.
The Stetson uses sold brass inlay current reinforcement to make possible the current load to the toroids from the fet. Yes I said Toroids. the stetson has 4 each laminated construction toroids , 2 in each power supply channel.

It also uses 90 ampere 250 volt rated Mosfet output devices in the Class D output section times 8. As with all class D amps its running in full H bridge mode by design just like many others, just much larger in scale.

It has internal 2 gauge power connections with professionally crimped lugs and 1/4 x 20 bolt hardware for power connections. It seems the amp produces more juice is you bypass this setup and run 00 gauge directly into each amp section <2 separate boards for each half bridge of the amp>.

And according to the Stetson a 0.8 DB advantage is gained by bypassing the two 175 ampere wafer fuses located inside. At least this is what the client was asking me to do for him. I declined for insurance reasons, as he does not have a fire extinguisher in his car

I have also seen the big JBL amp of which you speak. I was impressed by its design also, and its compact size.

It would make for a interesting challenge to test these two side by side :P

PS the Stetson amp is supposedly built in Brazil ? I found this to be unique along with all of its hand solders connections along with its many other excesses.

I should have got the big jbl amp when I was still employed at tweeter before they fell through. I was instead going to get the exile x5, but they sold out rather quickly.. Biggest amp i can get at my job now is the kicker 2500.1. What do you think of the kicker internally? Probably not going to get it, but what do you think? http://ampguts.realmofexcursion.com/Kicker_ZX2500.1/

Kicker likes to use large arrays of Mosfets < now normally this would appear to be a big + factor if parts count was the deciding factor>
I find high parts count means higher failure rates due to the Murphy's law that more parts means more weak links.

Kicker could have opted for lower parts count and higher reliability in my opinion by using larger and much heavier rated devices. This simplifies the assembly and and reduces the need for gain matching of large arrayed components. I find Kicker products to very economically manufactured <i.e.Cheap>.
The kicker in your post looks like a Toxic audio amp of which I have 4 in my junk yard. A single mosfet failed in each and the resulting catastrophic cascade failure, of several other outputs and the entire power supply's < both of which self destructed> and the burned up board space that prevent rebuilding the amp.

The Stetson uses 8 extremely high power outputs, not 32 like the kicker amp does. Also the Stetson uses all International rectifier class D chips in sockets so it can be repaired with relative ease, since these will most likely go south when the outputs do. Kicker "appears" to use a class BD driver board like Sony and fosgate only their board is a off the shelf Asian made device. It works and has it share of market including Soundstream, Directed, and others.

Kicker is not held in high repute around the bay area of SF. They seem to have had a bad run since the old ZR line and only gotten more economical since their Asian manufacture. they ( their class D amps ) are clones of Directed and Soundstream being made of the same drivers and outputs inside. Asian knock off amps with the Kicker name imprinted on them.

I must have at least 6 kicker 1200.1's in my junkyard, and if I combined all 6 I might get one working amp. The Kicker clientèle seem to excessively abusive to the kicker brand name also. If I sound down on Kicker I am not, as i make a bunch of money fixing them and upgrading their 15 volt rail supply transistors so they don't burn out < a common failure of their class AB amps.

I personally don't care for Kicker amplifier products, but they have a fair market share, so who knows maybe I'm high or something

Kool.. I wasnt planning on getting them, just wondered what you thought. It would be nice if i could get a nicely priced highpowered amp (2500+ or more) for a good price, but since that isnt happening, Im stuck going with the rsd 1200.1s that you dont care to much for  We will see how they hold up..

I actually don't have a down side about the RSD Class D amps. My questions are all about their class AB amps and maybe I will see one someday to get a first hand chance to test one. I'm still loving my Xe200.4, so don't take my hesitance as anything serious. Most folks I know that have the RSD line are very happy with their purchase. Only time will tell me otherwise at this point. :)
