Post by selondontiburon »

Can somebody please help, i just got this sub, i am using a JBL GTO14001e amp (1500watts rms) and the sub sounds more like 300-500rms?! Why? i am running 4g wire. and a sealed small box!

Did you wire the voicecoils in series or parallel? Make certain you have them wired in parallel... + to +, and - to -. Also make sure you're not using the LED inputs instead of a voicecoil!

4 gauge wire is probably the bare minimum for that amp... better would be 2 or 0 gauge, and a splitter. Also, the sub prefers larger boxes, ~1.5cuft or so. But it should still sound louder than that.

a quick easy test to see if they are VC's or LED's.....is to hook up like a 9volt battery to the terminals....one at a time....and just for a second. If it is a Voice coil it should make the sub woofer voice coil pop or move etc. If it is the LED then it should light the LED's...or so...

Do yourself a favor and DO NOT POWER THE SUB ANYMORE UNTIL: you properly wire it!!

Here is the manual. Make sure you only connect the voice coils and leave the LED (lights) disconnected, or run them a separate power (+) and ground (-).

Thanks people! I understand the concept of being a dumba** and NOT wiring the led's! But still not sure how i wire up the VC'S?! Do i just join the + to the other + and the - to the other - then + off VC -1 and - off VC-2 then into my amp.

close...except, at the end, run the +and- from the same VC (of your choice) to the amp. maybe it'd work fine the way you mentioned, but i havent done it like that, so i cant vouch...good luck dude.
what if the hokey pokey really is what it's all about?

Scroll down to page 2 for a picture diagram. You want the sub wired in parallel.

So if i have wired this in perfect by the sub, why is it sounding so low! its SERIOUSLY does not feel like 1500watts rms! NO WAY! my old system was 700rms and that kicks this ass bigtime! Can it be because i should be running thicker wire then 4g? and only using a oem battery!

Use a DMM to test the resistance of the sub once you have it wired. It should read around 2 ohms if wired in parallel.

Were you running a ported enclosure with your last sub? If so, that will make a HUGE difference on output...

Also, do you mainly listen to techno/rap/hip hop? if so, you WILL NOT be happy w/ the sealed enclosure and will have to go back to a ported design...

You probably will have to go back to a ported box to be happy, honestly.
